Patent number: 6435792Abstract: An improved sleeve for insulating a tacking strip from materials applied to furniture products. The sleeve covers and encompasses the entire tacking strip with the exception of a central corridor through which tacks from the strip extend. The sleeve slides over the tacking strip and includes a flexible flange graduated in thickness on either side of a central corridor left open by the sleeve. The sleeve is installed around the tacking strip by a lateral displacement of the sleeve over the strip causing the graduated flanges to deform slightly upon contact with each tack along the central corridor. Due to the deforming properties of the flange, resistance on each tack is small enough that insertion of the sleeve over the tacking strip not hindered yet sufficient to prevent further lateral displacement of the sleeve once it is installed around the tacking strip.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2001Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: Tacking Strip, Inc.Inventors: Stephen S. Patent number: 4627777Abstract: An attachment means for mounting decorative borders consisting of at least two identical nail-like parts, each part having an elongated section, one end of which gradually narrows and the other end of which forms a member having two trapezoidal-shaped heads. The trapezoidal head parts are separated by a V-shaped notch and are bent at an approximate right angle relative to the elongated section of the part so that the head forms two protruding teeth. The elongated section has a longitudinal bend and a slot which coincides with the bend. The bend, the width of the elongated section, and the width of the slot are mutually matched so that the elongated section of one part can be inserted with a friction fit into the slot of an identical other part. When using the attachment means the elongated section of one part is inserted with friction fit into a pre-bored hole and the teeth are pushed into a border which is then affixed.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1984Date of Patent: December 9, 1986Inventor: Eskil T. Patent number: 4514126Abstract: An improved corrugated staple or fastener for joining together wood members such as wood chords to form a joist-like wood beam. The staple, which is made of sheet metal, has corrugations oriented at three different angles relative to a reference line such as the edge of the staple which is to be inserted into the wood members. The corrugations which are oriented at the first and second angles pull the wood chord members toward each other and when the joist-like beam is subjected to loading, the orientation of the first and second corrugations compresses the wood chords toward each other and increases friction between the chords. The third corrugation is oriented so that when the staple is inserted into the wood chords, the fibers of the wood are temporarily displaced and thereafter move back toward their original position to resist any tendency of the staple to pull out of the chords. The third corrugation also increases the resistance of the staple to horizontal shear forces or bending.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1981Date of Patent: April 30, 1985Inventor: James Knowles

The clip is formed from a metal plate and has first and second portions struck out from the plate. The first and second portions both extend outwardly from the plate in the same direction. The first portion is angularly bent so as to form an L-shaped finger member capable of engaging a peripheral edge of the planar member to be secured to the furring strip. The second portion has a free pointed end and is angularly bent so that it can be driven back across the plane in which the plate lies and then driven into the wooden support member to which the planar member is to be secured.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1978Date of Patent: March 17, 1981Assignee: Automated Building Components, Inc.Inventor: Andrew G.
