  • Patent number: 6350091
Abstract: The grommet assembly includes a grommet head and a pin. The pin includes longitudinal guide channels and an enlarged head which may include undercuts formed immediately underneath the enlarged head. The grommet head includes grommet segments secured radially by radial bands with a nose band forming the tip of the grommet head. An aperture is formed between the grommet segments, with guide ridges formed on the interior arcuate walls to engage said longitudinal guide channels. The aperture further includes inwardly ramped surfaces which are forced apart by the enlarged head of the pin during insertion. Thereafter, in the fully installed position, the inwardly ramped surfaces engage the undercuts formed beneath the enlarged head.

The seal cap has a plurality of extensible pleats formed in respective places corresponding to the leg pieces of the grommet. When the leg pieces of the grommet spread and engage with the periphery of the attachment hole of the panel through the seal cap, the pleats of the seal cap stretch out to follow the spreading leg pieces, so that the seal cap can be deformed easily. The secondary locking mechanism preferably includes a peripheral groove in the shoulder with a peripheral lip protruding above the shoulder at each longitudinal side of the groove. The peripheral lip adjacent the mandrel head protrudes further than the peripheral lip adjacent the locking section, with the secondary locking mechanism forming a fishhook profile. The peripheral lips are also bevelled toward the mandrel head and the locking rings in the locking section are circular and spaced from one another.

Abstract: According to the invention, there is provided a coupler which is realized in the form of an integral unit made of an elastic synthetic resin material which is free from any risk of losing any of its components and can be temporarily but securely held in aligned bores of the plaques it is going to couple once it is introduced into the bores so that the plug body of the coupler may be pushed into the socket body with ease. Moreover, since the socket body of the coupler firmly held in the bores of the plaques to be coupled and the plug body pushed into said socket body are connected with each other by means of a pair of thin support members to form an integral coupler unit, said plug body can be pushed into said socket body with a relatively small force to securely rigidly couple the plaques. As there are no parts of the unit which are prone to damage, it is good for repeated use.

The cylindrical portion tapers toward the other end thereof and includes a plurality of arially extending notches, a plurality of inner projections formed upon inner surfaces of the end portion, and elastically deformable locking pieces projecting obliquely outwardly from an intermediate portion thereof toward the flange portion. The insertion member has a large-diameter portion for disposition within the axial bore of the cylindrical portion. The cylindrical portion is expanded radially outwardly by inserting the insertion member into the axial bore of the cylindrical outer member from the flange portion end thereof and by bringing the large-diameter portion into engagement with the inner projections of the cylindrical portion of the insertion member.
