Having Resilient Securing Structure On Shank Patents (Class 411/508)
  • Patent number: 6511108
Abstract: A tote bin seal for securing sheet material lids via aligned lid apertures includes a flange forming an ID flag attached to a locking device having a hollow core body at one body end and two semi-circular arrays of tangs at the other body end, the tangs formed of stems and reverse hooks or barbs. The body is somewhat oval with a rectangular central portion, the tangs depending from each arcuate end of the oval. Each of the tangs and the body have an interior axially extending triangular stiffening rib. An insert with a head and a bifurcated shank is attached to the flange opposite the body and may be sheared from the flange for insertion into the body core. The shank forms a locking opening which captures a web in the body core for securing the insert locked to the body. The insert prevents the tangs from compressing inwardly to open the seal. The flange has a living hinge so it can be folded over to permit reading ID data from the flange in stacked bins.

  • Patent number: 6478519
Abstract: A bolt retaining article retains a bolt within a bore of a structure prior to the bolt being threadingly engaged within the bore. The bolt retaining article includes a tubular body having concave sections and convex sections. The concave and convex sections alternate around the tubular body. A number of engaging arms extend outwardly from the exterior surface of the concave sections to secure the bolt retaining article within the bore of the structure. The compressive forces created by the compression of the bolt retainer article when it is inserted into the bore prevent it from falling out. Likewise, the compression of the bolt retaining article around the bolt prevents the bolt from slipping out once inserted into the bolt retaining article. The bolt may slide within the bolt retaining article, but only with the application of an external axial force.

Abstract: A snap-in fastener secures two sheets together by snap fit. Extensions of the fastener body include a clinch feature that provides a permanent attachment to a first sheet of metal. Integral snap arms which extend beyond the opposite side of the first sheet provide a reusable means to attach to an appropriately sized hole in a second sheet thus uniting the two sheets. The sheets include rectangularly-shaped holes positioned in alignment through which the snap arms of the fastener pass to achieve attachment. A locking mechanism may be employed to hold the snap arms in their engaged position to prevent pull-out of the second panel. In addition, finger grips integral with the body of the fastener provide an ergonomically suitable handle for carrying the attached sheet.
