Deformable Bolthead Or Nut Patents (Class 411/967)
  • Patent number: 5992063
Abstract: The invention relates to an assembly of ground engaging tool components which are attachable to the lip of a bucket of an earth moving machine. The assembly of tool components comprises a nosepiece attachable to the lip of the bucket, an adaptor attachable to the nosepiece and a tip attachable to the adaptor. The components are attachable to one another by spigot and socket arrangements, the relevant spigot in each case defining two opposed tapered faces and a pair of side faces spacing the tapered faces from one another, at least one of the side faces of the spigot defining a groove with opposed side walls which are tapered in an opposite sense to the taper on the opposed tapered faces.

  • Patent number: 5294223
Abstract: A fastener particularly suited to affixing metal to plastic parts, such as fastening electrical connectors to plastic circuit board mounting housings, includes a head and an elongate shank with an internally threaded through-bore. Located directly beneath the head is a shoulder which extends along the outside of the shank a distance equal to the total width of the parts to be joined. A mid-section of the shank is of reduced diameter, creating a thin-walled area of the shank compared with the areas at either end. A bottom part of the fastener includes internal threads, said bottom part beginning at the end of the thin-walled, mid-section of the shank. The through-bore includes a step down to a reduced diameter at the end of said mid-section. Therefore, when axially compressed, the fastener repeatedly bulges outwardly at its weakest point which lies just beyond the shoulder. The parts to be joined are thus trapped between the head and this radial bulge of the shank.

  • Patent number: 5267832
Abstract: A retainer (76) is disclosed for retaining a first element to a second element. Various construction details are developed which provide means to secure a second element to a first element wherein the elements are highly stressed, such as the rotating components of a turbomachine. In one particular embodiment, the retainer has a deformable portion (86) on one end, an internally threaded portion (88), and a shoulder (84) disposed on the end opposite the deformable portion and having a flat surface (92) to prevent rotation of the retainer during assembly. The deformable portion extends through cooperating retainer apertures (52, 68) in the two elements. The deformable portion is flared in place to produce a clinching force between the deformable portion and the shoulder and thereby secure the two elements together.

  • Patent number: 4966512
Abstract: In interconnecting construction between a bolt and a mounting plate such as a shell of a brake booster is disclosed. A sealing, annular projection is formed in an end face of a bolt head so as to surround a bolt shank which is formed with a serration. Both the annular projection and the serration are caused to bite into the opposite surfaces of the mounting plate, whereby an excellent sealing effect and locking action against rotation are simultaneously achieved.
