    Abstract: An axial fan has a blade support wheel coupled to a drive shaft. A disk is positioned about the drive shaft adjacent the wheel. A torsion spring is coupled to the wheel and to the disk. When the torsion spring is in tension, the disk is poised for a relative rotation about the drive shaft. A lock couples the disk to the wheel when the torsion spring is in tension. Fan blades are supported by the wheel, and are coupled to the disk. Rotation of the drive shaft rotates the fan blades generating a specific flow direction. To reverse the flow direction, a release mechanism uncouples the lock from the disk and wheel causing the disk to experience rotation about the drive shaft as tension in the torsion spring is released. The disk's relative rotation re-positions the fan blades reversing the flow direction as the drive shaft continues to rotate.

    Abstract: An automatic dishwasher includes a cabinet enclosing an interior washing chamber with a pump mounted in the cabinet for pumping liquids into and out of the washing chamber. The pump includes a housing having spaced apart walls and a rotatable motor shaft extending into the housing from a first one of the walls. A rotatable impeller is mounted for longitudinal movement along the motor shaft and is keyed to rotate with the motor shaft between the spaced apart walls of the housing. A removable bearing mount that supports a thrust bearing is threaded into the pump housing and, with the thrust bearing, provides an axial stop for limiting the movement of the impeller along the motor shaft. The bearing mount also includes an annular surface disposed near the exposed edges of the blades of the impeller and spaced therefrom by a predetermined, desired clearance or gap. The optimization of the clearance maximizes the efficiency of the pump.

    Abstract: A pitch arrangement for a variable pitch fan assembly of a turbofan gas turbine engine comprises a plurality of fan blades, each of which has a root portion rotatably mounted, in a thrust bearing on a fan rotor. A control ring is arranged coaxially with and is rotatably mounted on the fan rotor, and each of the fan blades is connected to the control ring by a lever arm. The pitch of the fan blades is varied by rotation of the control ring in either direction. A plurality of hydraulic rams are arranged to drive the control ring through a plurality of bell cranks. The hydraulic rams are mounted on the fan rotor so that the pistons and shafts move in a radial direction such that the centrifugal force of the pistons and shafts is applied to the bell cranks so that a counter turning movement is applied to the control ring to oppose the centrifugal turning moment of the fan blades.

    Abstract: A centrifugal fan includes a fan wheel having airfoil blades mounted for pivotal movement about their center of gravity. A yoke mechanism exterior of the fan wheel, when moved axially of the fan wheel drive shaft axis, causes actuator rods to move through the sidewall of the fan wheel. The axial movement of the actuator rods is translated first into rotary movement of a quill hub relative to the fan wheel and finally to radial movement of blade pivoting levers interior of the fan wheel. The movement of the blade pivoting levers causes the pitch of the individual fan blades to be changed in accordance with the degree of movement of the yoke mechanism. The yoke mechanism, actuator rods, quill hub and blade pivoting levers operate independently of the fan wheel so that blade pitch can be varied over an operating range irrespective of whether the fan wheel is stopped or is rotating.
