  • Patent number: 5173092
Abstract: A process and system for separating and removing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from groundwater, where said groundwater is polluted by immiscible liquid floating on the water table and by solutes within the water. The process includes pumping the contaminated water through a separator and low pressure tank assembly, that separates silt, sand, and liquid VOCs from the water. The water is pumped through an air stripper to remove the dissolved volatiles from the water. The recovered liquid VOCs from the pressure tank are suitable for processing or reuse. The volatiles liberated from the water in the air stripper are released either to the atmosphere or routed to pollution abatement devices as required by environmental rules. The decontaminated water is released to a sewer system or to the environment.

  • Patent number: 5145317
Abstract: A pipe diffuser is used in a centrifugal compressor in such a way as to obtain high efficiency over a broad operating range. The number of channels in the pipe diffuser is limited such that the wedge angle is relatively large and therefore not susceptible to flow separation at the leading edges thereof. The vaneless space between the impeller and the leading edge circle of the diffuser is limited in its radial depth such that the flow separations are further inhibited. Finally, the impeller has a relatively high backsweep such that the absolute flow exit angle is relatively low, thereby reducing the sensitivity to lower flow conditions.

Abstract: In a mechanical driving mechanism of a supercharger (1) for an internal combustion engine, which, starting from the internal combustion engine, acts on a rotor shaft (12) of a rotor (14) located on a supercharger housing through a planetary gear assembly (3) that is geared up, a compact construction of the driving mechanism and a balancing out of vibration between a primary shaft (2) and the rotor shaft (12) can be achieved. For that purpose, a ring gear (6) is propelled by the primary shaft (2), while the rotor shaft (12) that receives a sun wheel (8) is accommodated in a hub part (15) of a pinion cage (16) of the planetary gear assembly (3).

  • Patent number: 5104541
Abstract: A pump has an impeller with a circular series of airfoil vanes rigidly mounted thereon. The impeller is mounted in a casing which has a radially outwardly increasing internal axial extent, such that fluid flowing through the pump has a less constricted path peripherally of the pump chamber than centrally of the pump chamber. In another aspect of the invention, the impeller comprises two axially adjacent series of vanes separated by a radially extending partition which divides the interior of the pump casing into a vacuum chamber and a pressure chamber interconnected by a hole formed in the center of the partition. At least one of the central partition and the impeller plate are conical in shape, thereby to impart a radially outwardly expanding axial extent to the vacuum chamber, and a decreasing axial extent to the pressure chamber.

Abstract: The metal plate stator case (1), for radial centrifugal pumps, includes a main body (2), a diffusion volute (10), an axial suction inlet (3) and a radial discharge outlet (4) at the output of the diffusion volute. The volute is constituted by a circumferential channel (11) which is defined in the lateral wall of the main body and has a radial transverse cross section which increases uniformly toward the output of the volute. At least one portion of the channel has, in transverse cross section, a substantially constant radial depth and a uniformly increasing axial width.

  • Patent number: 5030061
Abstract: A casing for use in an in-line centrifugal pump has two mirror symmetrical shell-shaped sections which jointly define a suction inlet at one end and an outlet at the other end of the casing. A partition is located in the symmetry plane of the two sections to define a suction chamber with one of the sections and a pressure chamber with the other section. The partition has a first shroud which extends into the inlet and is disposed at one side of the symmetry plane, and a second shroud which extends into the outlet and is disposed at the other side of the symmetry plane. The symmetry plane is normal to the axis of the pump shaft, and the other section has an aperture for a portion of the housing of a pump stage or for an impeller. Such aperture is in register with a centrally located opening which is provided in the partition and extends between the two chambers, The marginal portions of the partition are soldered, welded or glued to outwardly extending flanges of the sections.

  • Patent number: 4929152
Abstract: When maintaining a flow of a mixture of products consisting of a liquid of low to medium viscosity incorporating solid particles at a certain temperature and for a certain period of time the mixture remains for some time in a vessel of a substantially cylindrical shape. The residence time in the vessel of the solid particles mixed with the liquid is controlled separately from the liquid in that the solid particles are carried through the vessel at a regulable speed, independently of the speed of flow of the liquid through the vessel, with the aid of a rotatable conveyor means which is permeable to liquid but not to the solid particles and whose axis of rotation coincides with the axis of the vessel. The solid particles remain mixed with the liquid. The residence time of the solid particles is regulated such that the core of the solid particles attains the same temeprature as the liquid, without the liquid remaining for too long a time at the desired end temperature.
