  • Patent number: 5269665
Abstract: A portable, hand-held blower/vacuum unit has a housing structure defined by an upper engine shroud removably connected to the top wall of a lower impeller housing. Disposed within the shroud is a small internal combustion engine having a vertical crankshaft which extends downwardly through a depending well section formed on the top wall of the impeller housing, the lower shaft end being drivingly connected to a centrifugal fan impeller positioned within the impeller housing and operative to force a flow of ambient air therethrough. The engine is resiliently and floatingly mounted within the shroud by a resilient support system which prevents rigid contact between the engine and the shroud or the impeller housing to thereby substantially reduce engine vibration transmitted to the housing structure, and permit deflection of the engine relative to the housing structure to lessen the possibility of engine damage caused by impeller impact from ingested objects.

Abstract: A combined air vent and pressure switch are provided at the inlet of a liquid pump. The air vent is adapted to exhaust air from a supply line, such as a garden hose, and thereby substantially prevent the pump from running dry before water from the hose reaches the inlet. The pressure switch is connected to the motor of the pump and is adapted to signal the motor to stop if the pressure switch senses a low pressure condition at the pump inlet, such as when there is inadequate liquid or no liquid at the pump inlet. The features of the air vent and pressure switch combine to prevent the pump from being damaged by running the pump without adequate liquid supply.

  • Patent number: 5040950
Abstract: A portable, high-pressure, power washing system is described which includes an electric motor driven gear pump where the electric motor is effectively water cooled by virtue of being contained in a thermally conductive housing surrounded by an insulating water jacket through which the water being pumped is made to flow before reaching the pump's inlet port. The pump is driven through a gear reduction mechanism such that a relatively inexpensive, single-phase, series AC (universal) motor normally operating at a high rpm can be employed. By proper dimensioning of the pump chamber relative to the drive and idler gears and by providing a flow divider at the pump chamber's discharge orifice, high pumping efficiency is obtained. • Patent number: 4872816
Abstract: A diaphragm pump is mounted on a frame or bracket. The inlet of the diaphragm pump connects with a flexible hose or tubing having a probe designed to fit into a vehicle fluid passage such as the dip stick passage associated with the oil pan of a vehicle. The outlet to the diaphragm pump is connected to one of a pair of based hollow tube members designing part of a bracket for support of the pump. Each hollow tube has a generally S shape configuration and is connected to the other tube by cross braces. One of the hollow tubes has the dual function of acting as a support bracket for the diaphragm pump assembly and as a fluid conduit, which is connected to the diaphragm pump outlet at one end and defines a discharge passage into a container at the opposite end. The bracket assembly may thus be supported on a drum or other container by the bracket members with one of the bracket members serving as the discharge tube into the container.

  • Patent number: 4844701
Abstract: A mobile pumping unit including a housing enclosing an engine driven pump. The housing defines an air inlet chamber substantially isolated from an engine compartment. Air drawn into the inlet chamber by an engine driven blower is conveyed along a flow path and absorbs waste heat from the engine and is discharged to the ambient from an exit chamber. The inlet and exit chambers each include acoustic material for controlling noise in the air flow path. A conventional exhaust silencer is disposed in the exit chamber so that noise radiated from its surfaces is also controlled. A ventilation flow path for the engine compartment is established by bleeding off a portion of said cooling air and discharging it through a secondary outlet formed in the housing. A hot air outlet for the cooling air is formed by a self-opening door hingedly mounted to the housing which is automatically opened by the air pressure in the exit chamber when the pump unit is started. The door is operatively connected to an exhaust pipe cover.

  • Patent number: 4832013
Abstract: A portable floating apparatus for providing pressurized air to a submerged diver. The apparatus is comprised of the combination of a gasoline engine and an air compressor, said combination being housed in a buoyant container similar to a suitcase. The gasoline engine is preferably a two-stroke engine which drives the air compressor. The top of the container has large outlets for the intake of fresh air for compression, engine cooling and the exit of exhaust gases. These outlets have cowlings extending therefrom to reduce flooding by water from spraying or waves in rough seas. A small outlet on the side of the container with a coupling allows a flexible hose to supply air to a submerged diver. An optional fan may be inserted in the duct of one cowling to provide additional ventilation and cooling. The air supply hose, cowlings and other exterior components can be stored in the container when not in use.

  • Patent number: 4830579
Abstract: An improved portable compressor kit for use with motor vehicles including a detachable light. The compressor kit has an electrical cord which is plugged into the cigarette lighter socket of a vehicle. The case is wired so that it supplies electricity to the compressor held by the case and also to a light held by the case. The light may be unplugged from its connection with the case as may be the conductor which leads from the cigarette lighter socket, and this conductor may then be plugged into the removable light to provide a portable light.

  • Patent number: 4824340
Abstract: A pneumatic system (10) is shown in its most preferred use in a spray gun (12) to remotely control a pressure washer. The system (10) generally includes an integrally formed, homogeneous squeeze box (40) including a location ear (52), a nose tube (46), a bellows (44) and a discharge tube (48). Bellows (44) is generally rectangular in cross section and includes a flat top (62) and bottom (63) and accordion sides (64) having generally longitudinal fold lines (72, 74, 76, 78, 80) which are generally parallel to the mold part line (93) and the tubes (46, 48) but include a 2.degree. draft for ease in mold removal. A valve and spring tube (42) is loosely received on the nose tube (46) for sealing a vent hole (60) provided therein when the bellows (44) is compressed by a trigger (30) of gun (12) and for biasing the trigger (30) to an uncompressed bellows condition.
