Abstract: An electrically driven air pump having a housing, a pump mechanism in the housing and an electric motor in the housing connected in driving relation to the pump mechanism. Two spaced elastic supports support the electric motor from the housing at opposite ends of the motor. An air passage in the housing provides a flow of air past the electric motor to the pump mechanism. The air passage includes a suction nozzle supported by one of the elastic supports for supplying air to an inlet collar of a pump impeller of the pump mechanism. • Patent number: 5378121
Abstract: A pump including a submersible motor sealed within a motor chamber, an impeller rotatably mounted in an impeller chamber, and motor and impeller shafts coupled to one another to interconnect the motor and impeller. The impeller pumps fluid from the impeller chamber into the motor chamber where the fluid flows around the motor to cool the motor and muffle the motor noise before being discharged from the pump. The impeller shaft is rotatably mounted in a bearing fixed to the impeller housing and having grooves facing the shaft and providing fluid communication between the impeller and motor chambers. Fluid flows into the grooves from the impeller or motor chamber depending on the pressure gradient across the bearing, which varies according to downstream pump conditions (e.g., pressure). As the impeller shaft continues to rotate, fluid from the grooves forms a thin lubricating film in the clearance space provided between the impeller shaft and bearing.

  • Patent number: 5358385
Abstract: A new structure for an efficient electric pump is described. The electric pump of this invention mainly comprises a cover plate, a top cover and a housing to make up the outside appearance. Its inside consists of a dual piston device, an eccentric transmission device for the pistons to stroke up and down, an electric motor, a switch, an adjustable pressure switch, a rotary dial for adjusting said pressure switch and the associated circuitry. The cover plate has two circular ball-shaped chambers for the pistons to create the sucking and the discharging. In between the two ball-shaped chamber are discharge and suction channels which are independent from each other but are joined together. Two ends of the channel are provided with clack valves for controlling the air flow to be drawing in on one side and discharge on the other side. The pressure switch is disposed beneath the discharge channel so that the pressure switch trips when the discharge pressure extends a preset limit.

  • Patent number: 5354182
Abstract: An electric-motor/hydraulic-pump assembly in which an electric motor has a motor housing and a motor drive shaft, and a hydraulic pump is mounted directly to one end of the motor housing and internally coupled to the shaft to form a unitary assembly in which vibration generated by operation of the pump is transmitted to the motor housing. Support feet are affixed to the motor housing for mounting the motor/pump assembly to underlying support structure, and sound deadening ferrules are interposed between the motor housing and the support feet to inhibit transmission of structureborne noise from the motor housing to the support structure. The motor and pump are surrounded by a sound enclosure to inhibit radiation of airborne noise into the surround atmosphere. Fluid is drawn through an inlet in the sound enclosure and through the motor housing to cool the motor, and then pumped to a fluid outlet in the enclosure.

The spherical wall portion increases the stiffness of the closed container, which stiffness is enhanced by the spherical portions of the snubber stays. The thus reinformed closed container is unlikely to vibrate in resonance with the vibration of the combined motor-and-compressor assembly. • Patent number: 5030068
Abstract: A portable air blower includes a flexibly resilient housing, a motor mounted within the housing, and a blower wheel fixed to a motor shaft. The motor is bolted at one end to a motor mounting bracket which, in turn, is attached to the housing by a plurality of first shock mounts. Each such first shock mount includes a bolt for connecting the motor mounting bracket with the housing, and a resilient elastomeric grommet interposed between the bolt and the bracket. A self-clinching nut fixes the bolt to the housing. The motor shaft rotates through a self-aligning bearing held by a pyramid-like support bracket which is attached to the housing by a plurality of second shock mounts. The second shock mounts are identical to the first shock mounts, and include a resilient elastomeric grommet interposed between the support bracket and the bolt.

  • Patent number: 5020978
Abstract: Noise of a vehicular fuel pump is reduced by determining the major frequency range of the objectionable noise and the deformation patterns of vibrating elements of the pump, and providing a passive vibrator which has designed mass, stiffness and damping values that cause it to resonate in the major frequency range and to provide an out-of-phase reaction force which is of sufficient magnitude to offset the undesired vibration. The passive vibrator may be mounted on the pressure or return line of the pump.

  • Patent number: 5007807
Abstract: A compressor assembly is disclosed including a compressor mechanism resiliently mounted within a hermetically sealed housing. The compressor mechanism includes a crankcase having a radially extending mounting flange portion, which is resiliently connected to the housing sidewall at a plurality of circumferentially spaced locations by a plurality of mounting assemblies. Each mounting assembly comprises a rubber bushing received within a hole in the mounting flange, and a threaded stud that extends through a hole in the bushing and engages a threaded hole in a steel block welded to the housing sidewall above the mounting flange. A washer and retaining nut on the bottom of the threaded stud suspendingly support the mounting flange. In this manner, only a peripheral portion of the washer contacts the mounting flange circumjacent the hole therein, thereby minimizing noise transmission to the housing. Lateral movement of the compressor mechanism is absorbed by the bushing.

  • Patent number: 5002467
Abstract: A mounting system for electric pumps used in automotive vehicles, especially those in which the pump is installed in the fuel tank. To reduce pump and pump motor vibrations and noise, which may be objectionable to passengers, the pump is mounted within a jacket enclosure carried in the vehicle fuel tank. A suspension for the pump within the jacket consists of identical mount rings of relatively soft flexible material which has internal and external relatively thin projections to contact the inner walls of the jacket on the outside of the ring and to contact the pump housing on the inside of the ring. Radial continuations of the projections establish the axial location of the pump within the jackets.

  • Patent number: 4998781
Abstract: The invention relates to a brake device for a hydraulic vehicle brake system. In this device, a return feed pump located in a feed pump housing is supported at several points between an assembly housing and a fastening plate and is movable relative to the other components. The mounting is done by screws resting in bearing tubes, the screws being surrounded by elastic damping sleeves in order to enable the elastic mobility of the feed pump housing. The line connections between the feed pump housing and the assembly housing are made by small connecting tubes resting in housing bores in the feed pump housing on one side and in the assembly housing on the other. The through bore extending through the feed pump housing in this region is sealed off on the side of the feed pump housing opposite the small connecting tubes by bolts, which with their part remote from the feed pump housing rest on the fastening plate.
