Rotary Motor Patents (Class 417/405)
  • Patent number: 3981626
Abstract: A down hole pump and, more particularly, a turbine driven geothermal down hole pump has a housing insertable in a well casing to a depth wherein geothermal liquid is exposed to the inlet of the pump contained in the housing and with a turbine in the housing for driving the pump and which is supplied with a part of the pumped liquid which is filtered and returned under pressure as a power liquid for driving the turbine. The pump has a suction ejector supplied with spent power liquid received from the turbine for imposing a net positive suction head on liquid at the pump inlet and with this spent power liquid also being directed to an expansible seal surrounding a lower part of the housing to engage the seal with the well casing. The drive shaft between the turbine and the pump is rotatably mounted by journal bearings with power liquid returned from ground level being supplied by passages to the journal bearings in a manner to avoid packing and mechanical seals for the shaft.

  • Patent number: 3977815
Abstract: Portable apparatus is provided for compressing gases such as air. The apparatus preferably includes a massive fly wheel, a gas compressor and a compressed gas storage vessel mounted on a portable platform. The fly wheel is rotatably mounted whereby it may be rotated by a temporary outside source of power and then the momentum thereof is used to power the gas compressor. The resulting compressed gases may be stored temporarily in the compressed gas storage vessel and thereafter used to power compressed air tools or other apparatus, or for other purposes requiring a source of compressed gases. Excess compressed gases not needed for other purposes may be used to drive the fly wheel and thereby keep it rotating for a maximum period of time. The apparatus does not require an outside souce of power once the fly wheel is rotating at a satisfactory speed and thus thereafter it may be transported to a desired site and used to compress gases without causing a pollution problem.

  • Patent number: 3961866
Abstract: A geothermal energy transfer and utilization system extracts thermal energy stored in hot solute-bearing well water to generate super-heated steam from an injected flow of clean water; the super-heated steam is then used for driving a turbine-driven pump at the well bottom for pumping the hot solute-bearing water at high pressure and always in liquid state to the earth's surface, where it is used by transfer of its heat content to a closed-loop vapor generator-turbine-alternator combination for the generation of electrical or other power. Cooled, clean water is regenerated by the surface-located system for re-injection into the deep well and the residual concentrated solute-bearing water is pumped back into the earth. The invention features heat exchanger apparatus located adjacent the turbine-driven pump for permitting steam exhausted by the turbine to cool that part of the re-injected water used as a hydraulic bearing lubricant.

  • Patent number: 3948588
Abstract: A swivel, particularly useful in core drilling a bore hole, including a rotor rotatable in a stator, the rotor having a passage through which compressed air is forced to an air operated device for producing cores in the bore hole, and also having a return passage through which the cores conveyed by a portion of the compressed air flow into a core receiving chamber in the stator, a pusher or wiper in the chamber being secured to the rotor to rotate therewith and move around the chamber to shift the cores and core particles toward and into a stator outlet.

  • Patent number: 3938334
Abstract: A geothermal energy transfer and utilization system makes use of thermal energy stored in hot solute-bearing well water to generate super-heated steam from an injected flow of clean water; the super-heated steam is then used for operating a turbine-driven pump at the well bottom for pumping the hot solute-bearing water at high pressure and in liquid state to the earth's surface, where it is used by transfer of its heat to a closed-loop boiler-turbine-alternator combination for the generation of electrical or other power. Residual concentrated solute-bearing water is pumped back into the earth. The clean cooled water is regenerated at the surface-located system and is returned to the deep well pumping system also for lubrication of a novel bearing arrangement supporting the turbine-driven pump system.
