  • Patent number: 7413421
Abstract: A multi-cylinder reciprocating compressor has a plurality of compression chambers and a plurality of discharge valve devices associated with the respective compression chambers. Each discharge valve device includes a valve reed for opening and closing a corresponding discharge hole formed through a valve plate, and a retainer for regulating the lift of the valve reed. The retainer includes a stopper surface inclined with respect to the valve plate as viewed in cross section of the retainer, and the stopper surface has one side edge and the other side edge located remoter from the valve plate than the one side edge. The discharge hole is positioned such that the center of gravity of the cross section thereof is shifted from the center of the valve reed in the width direction thereof toward the other side edge of the stopper surface.

Abstract: A novel method of designing a pump by utilizing a cylinder with pistons inserted from each end. The cylinder contains two ports along the top for connection of a prime fluid chamber, a bulk fluid supply chamber and a fluid reservoir. These ports and corresponding connection details are arranged in a fashion that is perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder that comprises the pump chamber. Directly below at a different relative position also perpendicular to the axis of the pump chamber is an exit port for extrusion of fluid. The pump contains no valves or ancillary passages to direct flow between the different machine states of prime, refill, translate and dispense. The states are activated by relative position of the pistons with respect to each port. Fluid moves by translation within the pump by filling the chamber volume between the two pistons with a liquid and synchronizing the advance of the left piston with the retreat of the right piston.

An inlet valve opens and closes the inlet port and has an end whose shape is adapted to a shape of the inlet port. The shape of the inlet port is non-circular, and a portion of an opening edge of the inlet port protrudes into the inlet port. Tangential lines drawn from the protruding portions intersect the opening edge of the inlet port at at least two points.

Abstract: In the check valve having a valve seat member and the valve member, the valve seat member is provided with first and second conical seats. The second conical seat is positioned upstream the first conical seat. An angle of the second conical seat to an axis of the valve member is more acute than that of the first conical seat. Since the check valve has the second conical seat, contact pressure applied to the first conical seat is uniformly dispersed and, thus, the first conical seat is less worn out. Further, the second conical seat prevents the valve member from cutting into and sticking to the valve seat member, even if the wear has been progressed. Accordingly, an operation of the check valve is stable for a longer period of time.

Abstract: Various embodiments of the invention, therefore, provide pumps, and methods for their production. One exemplary embodiment of the invention comprises a ceramic plunger pump assembly. The pump assembly can include a pump body, which defines a pump chamber with an inlet port and an outlet port. The pump body can further define a plunger port disposed between the inlet port and the outlet port. In certain embodiments, the pump assembly can further include a ceramic plunger housing, which defines a cylindrical bore having an interior diameter. The plunger housing can be disposed within the plunger port. The pump assembly can also include a ceramic plunger. In particular embodiments, the ceramic plunger is slidably disposed within the cylindrical bore, such that the ceramic plunger may be reciprocated back and forth within the bore. Thus, the fluid can be moved from the inlet port of the pump chamber to the outlet port of the pump chamber through the reciprocal action of the plunger.
