Abstract: A pump includes a cylinder, a piston, a rod, a handle, a nozzle and a pressure gauge. The piston is received in a space extending through the cylinder. To pump, the piston is reciprocated in the cylinder. The rod is connected with the piston so that the piston is moved via operating the rod. The handle is connected with the rod for facilitating the operation of the rod. The nozzle is in communication with the cylinder. A pressure gauge can be engaged with and disengaged from the nozzle. A flow control unit is in communication with the nozzle for detachable engagement with the pressure gauge. The flow control unit provides an open position when engaged with the pressure gauge and a closed position when disengaged from the pressure gauge.

  • Patent number: 6663353
Abstract: A sensor for detecting contact of a fluid delivery probe with a fluid surface and for detecting fluid flow through the probe includes a first electrode disposed along a fluid flow path of the probe upstream from a distal tip of the probe and a second electrode longitudinally spaced and electrically isolated from the first electrode and disposed at the distal tip of the probe. An oscillating signal is transmitted through the first electrode, and at least a portion of the signal is received through the second electrode. Through changes in the received signal due to the distal tip of the probe coming into contact with a fluid surface or due to fluid flow through the conduit between the first and second electrodes, fluid surface contact and fluid flow can be detected. A pressure sensor can be employed to monitor internal fluid pressure within the fluid conduit of the fluid delivery probe as a secondary, redundant mechanism for detecting fluid flow through the conduit.

Abstract: A method is provided to determine an rpm profile for a turbine pump from pulse train data obtained from a sensor at the pump. The method eliminates ramp-up spikes from the pulse train by comparing the spike pulse count to the surrounding pulse counts and replacing data points responsible for abnormal pulse count increases/decreases between data points with interpolated values. The method similarly replaces data points that lie outside statistically acceptable pulse rate variations. A rough rpm plot is then generated, which must be smoothed to obtain the final rpm profile. Data points are infused between sensor data points to achieve an acquisition rate of approximately 1000 points per second. The infusion is accomplished by interpolating between sensor data points and equally spacing the infused data points along the interpolated curve. A smoothing function is then applied to the infused data set.

Abstract: A dual function air pump has a compressor with an inlet connected to a first port and with a first outlet connected to a second port. The air to the compressor is directed by a first tube from the first port, such that a suction effect exists at the first port. The air pumped out of the compressor is directed to the second port by a second tube, such that an exhaust or blowing effect exists at the second port. A pressure gauge is connected by an auxiliary tube to the second tube. The compressor further has a second outlet connected to a control switch assembly by a third tube.

Abstract: A reciprocating pump which is capable of detecting abnormalities in the sucking and discharging of fluid, such as the exhaustion of oil or the clogging of oil on the discharge side, by making use of detecting means which is inexpensive and relatively simple in structure and which can be operated without being detrimentally influenced by the bubbles that may be included in the fluid, while making it possible to minimize the noise generated by external vibrations. In this reciprocating pump, where the sucking and discharging of fluid are effected by making use of a reciprocating member, malfunction-detecting means formed of a piezoelectric element is provided for detecting a pressure fluctuation on a discharge side of the pump, and the pressure fluctuation of fluid being delivered from an discharging port is transmitted via a rigid pressure-receiving member to the piezoelectric element.

Abstract: The present invention provides a compressor comprising a housing including a main housing body having an interior reservoir for receiving an oil supply and an upright cover fixedly attached to the main body. The cover has an oil discharge opening extending through a lower portion thereof. The lowest surface defines the oil discharge opening being disposed at substantially the same level as a bottom surface defining the reservoir. The highest surface defines the oil discharge opening being above the normal static free surface level of the oil within the reservoir. A removable plug in the oil discharge opening which when removed allows oil in the reservoir to flow outwardly of the oil discharge opening. The cover has an upwardly facing oil flow engaging and configuring surface extending from the opening for defining the discharge flow configuration of oil flowing out of the opening when the plug is removed.

  • Patent number: 6468056
Abstract: A diaphragm pump prevents deformation, breakage, and the like of a diaphragm caused by the diaphragm being pushed strongly against a discharge opening during operation of the diaphragm pump, and that also provides smooth fluid transfer of the pumped fluid. At its extreme discharge position, the diaphragm is blocked from entering the pumped fluid discharge opening by a perforated diaphragm protecting device covering the fluid discharge opening. Selection of the size of openings in the diaphragm protecting device, appropriate for the materials being pumped, allows smooth movement of pumped fluid in the pump through the pumped fluid discharge opening, without interference. In one embodiment, the diaphragm protecting device is a movable perforated plate which is resiliently urged open, and which is pushed closed when the diaphragm reaches its discharge extreme position.

  • Patent number: 6461323
Abstract: The automatically controlled pump supplies pressurized irrigation fluid to a surgical site. The pump system includes a motor in a housing and a pump in a housing defining input and output ports. The pump has a rotatable impeller. The motor is powered by one or more batteries. An ON/OFF motor switch is controlled by fluid flow above a nominal flow by a sensor typically mounted downstream of the pump. The system operates in conjunction with a downstream manual control valve. Flow above a system minimal flow is detected by a negative buoyancy poppet having a “leaky” valve seat. When the poppet moves into a flow chamber, the switched motor is ON. Various position sensors may be used, i.e., an optical sensor. The method automatically controls a pump by monitoring fluid flow above a system minimal flow and turning ON/OFF the motor based upon flow above the minimum.

  • Patent number: 6457944
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for operating a dosing pump, the pump being driven by an asynchronous motor, comprising a drive which converts the motor revolutions into pump strokes of a defined stroke frequency. The pump strokes are comprised of a pump suction stroke and of a pump delivery stroke. Pump strokes are continuously carried out during a dosing phase. The aim of the invention is to provide a solution concerning a dosing pump having an asynchronous motor drive, a frequency converter thereto, and a control unit which interacts therewith in which the dosing behavior is improved during the operation of dosing pumps having an asynchronous motor drive.
