Weight Balanced Or Adjustable Seal Patents (Class 418/115)
  • Patent number: 11131194
Abstract: A rotor assembly for a rotary internal combustion engine is provided. The rotor assembly includes a rotor having a radial groove defined radially in a peripheral surface of the rotor. The groove has a depth and an intermediate shoulder at an intermediate depth. The groove has a first width therealong that is narrower than an intermediate width at the shoulder. An apex seal is received in the groove and protrudes from the peripheral face of the rotor. The apex seal is configured to move radially between a first position and a second position outward of the first position. A biasing member biases the apex seal toward the second position. A platform is disposed in the groove between the apex seal and the biasing member and has a width greater than the first width.

  • Patent number: 6886528
Abstract: At least two rotors are mounted in a chamber and rotate synchronously to compress and/or transport fluid. The chamber has the shape of partially overlapping circles with each circle intersecting the center of the adjacent circle. The rotors are non-eccentric and have curved sides with the same radius as the circles. In exemplary embodiments, the rotors are trochoidal and the chamber is epitrochoidal. Also provided are compressors, pumps, actuators, and engines incorporating the rotary machine.

  • Patent number: 4671231
Abstract: The unidirectional piston internal combustion engine is composed of a stator and a rotor. Annular grooves are cut on the rotor. Each groove is partitioned with a revolving valve gate to form into one "cylinder" between the rotor and the stator. Pistons are inserted into the cylinders and fixed on the rotor while the valve gates are incorporated in the stator. When the rotor turns, the pistons move relatively with the valve gates, which open to let the pistons pass and close again. The valve gates are operated directly by the pistons. Every two adjacent cylinders are made of a group, one for air compressing and one for combustion and expansion. For each group of cylinders, a one-way air passage valve is provided for compressed air to enter into the combustion and expansion cylinder, and is incorporated in the stator. Inlet and outlet ports are made in the stator. Seals for the valve gates, pistons and between grooves are developed to secure high pressure against leakage.

  • Patent number: 4666383
Abstract: Rotary machines of the type having a fluid chamber of changing volume, e.g. as ion an engine or pump, in which two rotors rotate in the same direction; a cylindrical surface of the first rotor of substantial arcuate extent, of radius substantially equal to the radius of its bore is arranged for sealing relationship throughout a chamber-defining range of rotation, with both its bore wall and with a surface of the second rotor; and the surface of the second rotor has a progressively changing radius to cause the chamber volume to progressively change during rotation. For forming multiple chambers, each subject to successive compression and expansion, each of the rotors has a transition surface preceding its large cylindrical surface and a transition surface following its large cylindrical surface, with an apex seal formed at each end of each large cylindrical surface.
