  • Patent number: 10066885
Abstract: A magazine well funnel assembly is an integrated design including a mainspring housing portion and a funnel well portion attached to a firearm. The magazine well funnel assembly includes a set of funnel walls arranged to form an aperture shaped to accept a magazine and is bounded by a funnel rim on a side of the set of funnel walls opposite a plane of the aperture. The funnel rim is shaped in an arc on a side of the set of funnel walls adjacent to the rear funnel wall portion to increase the surface area of the funnel. A method of modification includes drilling a relocated pin hole in the firearm frame and inserting the magazine well funnel assembly therein. A base section of the firearm frame may be removed to preserve the same vertical length of the firearm compared to before the magazine well funnel assembly was installed.

  • Patent number: 9810497
Abstract: A firearm safety system and method is described herein. The system may include a tracking system, a smart firearm and/or a smart magazine, and a smart tracking unit. The tracking system is in communication with satellites that monitor specific locations, a smart firearm and a portable electronic device. The tracking system includes an internal geographical database of specific monitored locations. The smart firearm includes a microprocessor and a receiver. The motor operates in response to a signal received, which may indicate that the firearm is approaching a no gun safety zone, whereby the signal causes the microprocessor to operate the automatic safety lock to prevent the apparatus from operating. The receiver monitors signals and receives location data from the satellites. The method of operating a smart firearm includes receiving a signal at the at least one receiver and responding to the signal by locking the automatic safety lock.

  • Patent number: 9514630
Abstract: A vehicle key monitoring system using a keychain device is provided. The system comprises a location database and a vehicle key monitor (VKM) device, which comprises a processor and memory and is connected to the location database. The VKM receives, from a location transmitter, a keychain location identifier and stores it in the location database. The VKM compares the location identifier to a plurality of location identifiers comprising an authorized zone for the keychain. The VKM transmits the current location to a client operated by a vehicle owner. The VKM determines that the keychain device location does not match the plurality of location identifiers for the authorized zone. The VKM generates an alert indicating that the keychain device is outside its authorized location zone. The VKM transmits the alert to the client, causing the client to display the alert and the current location of the keychain.

  • Patent number: 9335230
Abstract: A method of determining fluid pressure on a gun-launched projectile relies on deformation of a thin layer of a metallic material that comprises the outer layer of a segment of the projectile body. The axial segment of the projectile body that is selected for pressure measurement is altered or replaced with another axial segment. The altered segment has a thin-walled, structural, metallic sleeve that is concentric with an underlying hollow, metallic cylindrical body. The radially outermost surface of the body underlying the sleeve has a plurality of indentations formed thereon. Measurements of the deformations of the thin-walled sleeve into the indentations in the underlying body are correlated with known deformation and pressure data to determine pressure that was applied to the projectile during its ballistic cycle.

  • Patent number: 9182189
Abstract: When a semi-automatic weapon is live fired, its firing pin is reset and is ready to be fired again. The shooter's hands remain in the firing position, and just the trigger finger and trigger are employed. But with dry fire practice, the shooter must remove a hand from the weapon and ratchet the slide to reset the firing pin, allowing the trigger to return to its unfired position. This must be done each time a shot is simulated. This invention provides, by incorporating a modified ammunition magazine in the weapon's magazine compartment, realistic muscle memory training by duplicating the action of the trigger, the feel and the sound of the release of the firing pin and the resetting of the trigger for additional trigger activations. It does not interact with the weapon's firing pin and does not require any alterations to the weapon such as disassembling and reassembling of parts.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an improved buffer tube assembly comprising a buffer tube having a longitudinal forward end, a longitudinal rearward end, and an inner annular surface. The buffer tube further comprises an attachment location operably configured to couple the buffer tube to a lower receiver of a firearm. One novel feature is a dead blow buffer positioned at the longitudinally rearward portion of the buffer tube. The buffer tube comprising an external surface configured to fit within and substantially in contact with the internal bore surface of the buffer tube, wherein the dead blow buffer is configured to receive an impact from a buffer that is attached to a buffer spring fitted within the buffer tube. In one form, the dead blow buffer is positioned between the rearmost portion of the inner annular surface of the buffer tube and the buffer spring.

  • Patent number: 8464451
Abstract: A microprocessor circuit that is used to monitor and control a firearm. The microprocessor circuit accomplishes this by monitoring various sensor & control inputs, and acting on these inputs to execute user defined functions. The microprocessor circuit can use the sensory input to determine firearm statistics. These statistics can include the number of times the firearm has been shot, the efficiency of the firearm automatic action, range-to-target, and etcetera. The firearm system can also use a combination of sensors to fabricate a bullet chronograph whereby the muzzle velocity of a cartridge can be determined. These statistics can be date-stamped and recorded into memory. Statistics from Law Enforcement firearms can be used for courtroom evidence and police reporting. These statistics can also be used for firearm maintenance and warranty repair. The microprocessor circuit can display the statistical data to the user via simple light emitting diodes, or sophisticated liquid crystal displays.

  • Patent number: 8464452
Abstract: A firearm maintenance system wherein a count for the number of times the firearm is fired is kept and stored in memory that is resident on the firearm. Also installed on the firearm are a shot counter device, including an inertia switch, a communication card, and an extended life battery. An epoxy resin encases the memory, shot counter device, communication card and battery to protect them from detrimental environmental effects. The life of various component parts of the weapon are tracked against the shot count of the weapon and replaced at appropriate intervals. Weapon maintenance is performed by transferring the weapon's data from the weapon's memory to an operator laptop computer wherein an algorithm analyzes the data and advises the operator to take necessary maintenance steps, such as replacing parts that have reached the end of their useful life.

  • Patent number: 8387294
Abstract: The handgun identification light is a device attachable to a handgun, the device illuminating the handgun with flashing blue and red lights to provide advanced real-time early warning to police officers who encounter a fellow off-duty plainclothes or undercover officer during their response to the commission of a crime. The device has an on-off switch connected to a battery and flashing LED's disposed along opposing sides of the device. The device includes a tilt switch, grip switch, or gun motion sensor that detects when a user draws the weapon. By activation of the flashing red and blue light device on his weapon, an off-duty plainclothes or undercover police officer who draws the weapon becomes readily identifiable by other officers in proximity as a fellow law officer, thus avoiding misidentification and tragically resultant friendly fire incidents.

  • Publication number: 20130019510
Abstract: A locking system for a firearm is disclosed. A lock has a set state and an unset state, and substantial movement of any one or more fire control group components is inhibited with in the set state. A biometric sensor attachable to a grip of the firearm is receptive to an input biometric feature data set corresponding to a physiological feature of a user. A biometric input controller stores biometric feature data sets corresponding to enrolled user identities in a memory, and compares it against the input biometric feature data set to generate a biometric input validation status indicator signal. A proximity sensor attachable to the grip detects possession of the firearm by the user and generates a corresponding grip detection indicator signal. A system controller selectively actuates the lock to the set state and the unset state based upon a received combination and sequence of the biometric input validation status indicator signal and the grip detection indicator signal.
