  • Patent number: 5568696
Abstract: This invention relates to a magazine for a repeater firearm, preferably for an automatic pistol which, while approximately preserving its external dimensions, is modified so that the usable capacity inside the magazine is reduced. In one refinement, the invention relates to a magazine with a magazine tube (1), a magazine spring (4), a feeder (7) and a magazine base (2). To reduce the usable capacity of the magazine, a spacer (6) is attached to the magazine base (2) facing the magazine spring (4). The magazine spring (4) is also shortened so that, in the absence of the spacer (6), it does not exert sufficient force on the feeder (7) to reliably advance the last cartridges (9) to the magazine lips on the end of the magazine tube (1). In addition to or instead of the features described above, the spacer (6) can be designed so that in its absence, and if the magazine is filled with bullets, the magazine base is partly or completely detached from its mounting on the other end of the magazine tube (1).

A fourth member, such as a ramming rod (19), may be provided to move the first member into the guide and thence into the aperture as the fourth member advances from a first to a second position. In the case where the primer cartridge passes across a gap (18) in order to enter the aperture, the fourth member may be arranged to advance an additional distance to a third position wherein the additional distance is not less than the width of the gap, the additional distance being the permitted movement of a fifth member, such as a slidable bush (38), between two positions.

  • Patent number: 5526600
Abstract: An extended capacity cartridge magazine assembly for containing and feeding cartridges to a firearm is disclosed. The magazine includes a metal body for containing cartridges having an upper outlet through which cartridges may exit the magazine into the firing chamber of the firearm and a base plate for covering the bottom of the magazine body. A follower body is disposed within the body of the magazine for biasing cartridges toward the upper outlet. The follower body and the magazine body have certain dimensions to prevent an unwanted amount of rotation of the follower body when 0.45 caliber cartridges are being used. A collar slidably movable along the length of the magazine body is adapted to retain the base plate in a fixed position with respect to the magazine body. A flexible bumper plate interconnects with the bottom surface of the collar to secure the cartridge magazine assembly.

  • Patent number: 5507110
Abstract: A restricted capacity cartridge magazine includes a magazine body having four walls defining a chamber for housing cartridges, a bottom end and an open end through which cartridges may exit and a follower assembly for moving cartridges through the chamber toward the open end. The follower assembly includes a follower body and a constant force spring unit. Blocking members formed in opposing side walls terminate at a slot forming opposing lips which extend a predetermined distance into the chamber to contact portions of the the lowermost cartridges in the magazine to limit the movement of cartridges away from the open end of the magazine. The constant force spring unit terminates at a length such that the magazine is disabled if the follower body is moved past a predetermined distance from the open end of the magazine.

  • Patent number: 5502913
Abstract: A cartridge magazine for use with a firearm includes a housing arranged to enclose a plurality of cartridges. The housing has an opened end and a mouth for permitting cartridges to be loaded therein and dispensed therefrom. A follower is movably positioned within the housing and biased toward the mouth. At least one movably mounted tongue and an opposing member are associated with the mouth. The movably mounted tongue is constructed and arranged to move between a first normally biased cartridge retaining position wherein a forward-most cartridge is retained in the mouth by the tongue and the opposing member and a second cartridge loading position wherein the movably mounted tongue is moved linearly away from the mouth as a new cartridge is inserted thereinto. The tongue thereafter returns to the first cartridge retaining position.

  • Patent number: 5495687
Abstract: A firearm magazine has a cartridge pushing means including a follower, an auxiliary follower, a relatively short main spring, and a relatively short auxiliary spring; as opposed to the conventional firearm magazine having one follower and one relatively long spring. If the invented firearm magazine and the conventional firearm magazine have the same size and both are fully loaded, all the springs--short ones and long one--are compressed to the same length, and it is obvious that the spring tension for the short spring is much less than the same for the long one, and accordingly the invented firearm magazine can stay fully loaded much longer than the conventional one, without losing restoring force of the springs.

  • Patent number: 5473834
Abstract: The firearm comprises a manual control (13) for deactivation of the retainer of a cartridge magazine (8) by release of a tooth (16) from a notch (17) of the magazine and a device for the automatic ejection of the magazine. The automatic ejection device comprises a finger (25) for the actuation of the tooth (16), which is integral with the cartridge elevator piston (19) of the cartridge magazine (8), to come against the retainer of the latter and cause its ejection before the end of the elevation stroke of the cartridge elevator piston during the chambering of the last cartridge (12) under the thrust of the spring (20) of this piston against an activation spring (18) of the retainer. After the ejection of the empty cartridge, the retainer (13) is again activated by its spring (18) and, during the replacement of this magazine, a cartridge (12) is thus chambered and the firearm is ready to fire.

  • Patent number: 5461811
Abstract: A cartridge magazine for a gun includes a machined magazine body having an open edge and open bottom and a separate edge plate slidably attachable to the magazine body to cover the open edge and a floor plate slidably attachable to the magazine body to cover the open bottom and to lock the edge plate in place. A cylindrical coil spring is held in position in the magazine body and has a cartridge follower on one end and a spring base plate on the other which base plate has a detent member for locking to the floor plate for holding the cartridge magazine together. The process selects the components and assembles them by positioning the spring in the spring supporting portion of the magazine body, sliding the edge plate into position and then sliding the floor plate into position to lock the edge plate, floor plate and follower spring together.

  • Patent number: 5450683
Abstract: An improved magazine construction for gas powered firearms or other single object dispensing unit is disclosed. The expanding gasses from the breech or barrel of the gun are directed into the bottom portion of the magazine where they are introduced into a chamber having varying capacity. The upper portion of the chamber is movable and forms the follower, which includes integral biasing means thereon to provide additional impetus for urging the cartridges upwards into the receiver. The body of the follower also includes spring loaded cammed pins that engage cooperating pin holes in the inner magazine wall to provide a ratcheting action as the follower advances. These pinholes also serve as a excess pressure relief, allowing the gasses to escape through a blow by rail located between the inner and outer magazine walls.
