  • Publication number: 20130247454
Abstract: A radiant heat chemical reactor is configured to generate chemical products including synthesis gas products. Two or more tubes in the radiant heat chemical reactor separate an exothermic heat source, such as flames and gas from a regenerative burner, from the endothermic reaction of the reactant gas occurring within the cavity of the refractory vessel. The exothermic heat source heats a space inside the tubes. One or more feed lines supply chemical reactants to the cavity area between an inner wall of the cavity of the refractory vessel of the chemical reactor and the two or more tubes that are internally heated located with the cavity.

  • Publication number: 20120148485
Abstract: The present invention provides a steam methane reforming process and system utilizing an integrated steam system having both high pressure and low pressure steam circuits. According to this invention, substantially the entire stream of treated boiler feed water leaving the deaerator is pressurized and sent to the boiler feed water heater at elevated pressures. The resulting high pressure heated boiler feed water is split with a portion used as the feed to make low pressure steam and the balance is sent to the high pressure steam circuit.

  • Patent number: 8119076
Abstract: In one aspect, the inventive process comprises a process for pyrolyzing a hydrocarbon feedstock containing nonvolatiles in a regenerative pyrolysis reactor system. The inventive process comprises: (a) heating the nonvolatile-containing hydrocarbon feedstock upstream of a regenerative pyrolysis reactor system to a temperature sufficient to form a vapor phase that is essentially free of nonvolatiles and a liquid phase containing the nonvolatiles; (b) separating said vapor phase from said liquid phase; (c) feeding the separated vapor phase to the pyrolysis reactor system; and (d) converting the separated vapor phase in said pyrolysis reactor system to form a pyrolysis product.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a system includes a methanation section generally including a fuel inlet configured to receive a first fuel, a fuel outlet configured to output methane, and a first fuel path configured to route a first flow of the first fuel from the fuel inlet to the fuel outlet. The first fuel path includes a first methanator configured to generate the methane from the first fuel in an exothermic methanation region. The system also includes a second fuel path configured to route a second flow of a second fuel without conversion to methane. The second fuel path is also configured to receive heat from the exothermic methanation region.

  • Patent number: 8012435
Abstract: A system and method for producing natural gas is provided. a gas dynamic laser is powered by a gas, such as carbon dioxide, while the same gas is converted by a catalytic converter heated by the beam of the laser. Other gases can be formed simultaneously in other catalytic converters heated by the laser beam. The resulting converted gases can be used to produce a fuel gas. Excess heat and/or by-products of the process can be used to produce electricity.

  • Publication number: 20110020197
Abstract: Described herein is a fuel processor that produces hydrogen from a fuel source. The fuel processor comprises a reformer and burner. The reformer includes a catalyst that facilitates the production of hydrogen from the fuel source. Voluminous reformer chamber designs are provided that increase the amount of catalyst that can be used in a reformer and increase hydrogen output for a given fuel processor size. The burner provides heat to the reformer. One or more burners may be configured to surround a reformer on multiple sides to increase thermal transfer to the reformer. Dewars are also described that increase thermal management of a fuel processor and increase burner efficiency. A dewar includes one or more dewar chambers that receive inlet air before a burner receives the air. The dewar is arranged such that air passing through the dewar chamber intercepts heat generated in the burner before the heat escapes the fuel processor.
