Nonionic Surfactant Containing Patents (Class 424/70.31)
  • Patent number: 8586012
Abstract: A body wash composition includes sunscreen or UV screen materials. The body wash composition is formulated so that it may be applied during normal hygiene activities, such as washing. However, the composition applies an effective level of sunscreen or UV screen material to the body such that the sunscreen or UV screen continues to provide effective solar protection even after rinsing or washing of the human body. Further, the material is a non-greasy, easy to apply material that may be used during showering activities in a manner similar to using a bar soap or cleanser. The composition includes a variety of materials that assist in the processing and storage of the body wash. Effective amounts of solar protective material include octyl methoxycinnamate, octyl salicylate, and titanium dioxide. Testing shows that the product provides a solar protective level of at least approximately 14 even after multiple rinsings. Further embodiments have achieved a solar protective level of at least approximately 17.

  • Patent number: 8535650
Abstract: The invention relates to compositions and methods for drug delivery suitable for promoting the transmucosal absorption of drugs, especially drugs with poor intrinsic bioavailability, such as peptides, proteins, vaccines, and nucleic acids. The delivery system of this invention preferably comprises fatty acid esters and their hydrophilic derivatives that associate with water and other polar solvents to form reverse micelles that are physically stabilized in the presence of gastrointestinal fluid, water, and other hydrophilic solvents. Such stable reverse micelles are formed by suitable mixtures of polymeric or non-polymeric compounds with amphiphiles. Micelles made using these methods undergo phase transformation more slowly resulting in delayed drug release profiles and sustained absorption.

  • Patent number: 8263056
Abstract: Peptides have been identified that bind with high affinity to dyed hair. Peptide-based hair reagents formed by coupling a dyed-hair-binding peptide to a benefit agent are described. The peptide-based hair reagents include peptide-based hair conditioners and hair colorants. The peptide-based hair conditioners and hair colorants are comprised of a dyed-hair-binding peptide coupled to a hair conditioning agent or a coloring agent, respectively. The peptide-based hair reagents or the dyed-hair-binding peptides may also be used as a protective sealant to improve color retention of dyed hair.

  • Patent number: 8221734
Abstract: Non-pressurized shaving compositions are described that provide a warm/hot sensation during use as the result of an exothermic redox reaction. The compositions are post-foaming via nascent gas release in situ due to the generation of carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide induced foam is maintained for several minutes after the compositions are dispensed, whereby the compositions are capable of providing both a warm sensation and sustained lather, a balance which heretofore has been a significant challenge.

Abstract: The present invention provides a production method that can easily produce an O/W emulsion composition without using a special cooling apparatus and be economical. The production method of an O/W emulsion composition comprising: emulsifying, at 70° C. or higher, an oil phase with a portion of a water phase to prepare an emulsified part, wherein the oil phase comprises (A) a nonionic surfactant, (B) a linear higher alcohol that has 16 or more carbon atoms and can form an ?-gel in water with the nonionic surfactant, and (C) an oil component, and the water phase comprises (D) water; mixing the remaining main water phase at 10 to 35° C. with the emulsified part while being stirred, to cool the emulsified part with continuous stirring to the lower temperature limit, or lower, of a temperature range wherein the oil phase forms an ?-gel in the water phase; and then stopping the stirring.
