Abstract: Pharmaceutical compositions comprising a macromolecular pharmaceutical agent in mixed micellar form are disclosed. The mixed micelles are formed from an alkali metal alkyl sulfate, and at least three different micelle-forming compounds as described in the specification. Micelle size ranges between about 1 and 10 nanometers. Methods for making and using the compositions are also disclosed. A preferred method for administering the present composition is through the buccal region of the mouth.

Abstract: Compositions based on Heliopsis longipes root used orally in treating xerostomia, for dry mouth, increasing salivation, alleviating dry mouth, and in maintaining or improving oral hygiene; as local contact anesthetics; as a cough suppressant, and as an oral sensate-producing desirable sensations in the oropharynx. The herbal composition includes an extract from Heliopsis longipes root and an oral carrier for the extract. A suitable amount of extract is from about 0.01 to about 10 weight percent of the overall composition. A variety of compositions include an oral carrier; preferred compositions are: 1) a gum with a solid exterior and a liquid center, both the exterior and center containing an effective amount of the extract composition; 2) a solid gum, 3) lozenges; candies, confections and 4) flavored liquid sprays and drops, and mouthwashes. The invention is further useful as an enhancer and potentiator of flavor.
Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a method for inhibiting COX-2 in an organism. In particular, the method is preferably directed toward selectively inhibiting COX-2 in an organism. The method comprises administering to the organism an organic extract isolated from a non-edible plant wherein such extract inhibits COX-2. A method to purify a composition that exhibits COX-2 inhibition and COX-2 selective inhibition from the organic extract is also provided. In addition, a method for treating and/or preventing COX-2 mediated inflammation or inflammation-associated disorders in an organism is provided.

The medicament is anticipated to be administered perorally in form of tea, a tincture and a pill.
Abstract: Provided herein are medicinal compositions of matter that comprise an anti-hepatitis medication component and a component which contains compounds found in the extract of the milk thistle plant, Silybum marianum. Through use of the compositions of the invention a heretofore unobserved synergy is observed in the treatment of chronic infectious hepatitis in which the liver of a patient treated with a composition according to the invention is protected from degradation, which in many cases may prolong the life of the patient and aid in the patient's recovery from hepatitis by strengthening liver functions. The invention also provides procedures for administering the composition to patients afflicted with hepatitis.

Abstract: A compound and method of using such compound is disclosed that, when administered to an animal, is capable of arresting the inflammatory response in affected tissues and facilitates the repair and maintenance of damaged tissues in the joints of vertebrates. The combination of natural physiological metabolites and herbal phytochemicals is used to treat connective tissue diseases, the composition preferably orally administered. One embodiment of the composition includes chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine that, when ingested by a vertebrate, suppresses the degradation of connective tissue by an autoimmune response. A preferred composition of the present invention includes a palatability agent, an herbal phytochemical, and a metabolic precursor that synergistically acts to increase blood circulation, thereby enhancing transport of the phytochemical and metabolic precursors to an affected site whereby deleterious inflammatory byproducts are removed.

Abstract: Multipurpose skin preparations in the form of oil-in-water emulsions are disclosed. The skin preparations are prepared by combining an oil phase and an aqueous phase. The oil phase comprises a siloxane polymer, a cyclic silicone, an anti-oxidant, and an emollient. In a second version of the present invention, the oil phase includes a copolymer comprising PPG-12/SMDI. The aqueous phase comprises at least a humectant, a rheology modifier, a thickener, and water. The inventive preparations are useful in topical application to the skin, are highly water resistant, remain on the skin after multiple washings, form a protective barrier on the skin, and effectively deliver and maintain moisturizing and therapeutic agents on the skin. It is believed that the skin preparations of the present invention also effectively deliver and maintain moisturizing and select therapeutic agents, biological agents, pharmaceutical agents, and the like, which are useful for the treatment of pathologies of the skin.
Abstract: The present invention provides pharmaceutical compositions which include Chinese herbs. These pharmaceutical compositions are especially effective in treating patients with immunological disorders, such as asthma, atopic eczema, atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis and rheumatoid arthritis. The pharmaceutical compositions contain ophiopogon (Tuber Ophiopogonis), pinellia (Tuber Pinelliae), raw licorice (Radix Glycyrrhizae), tang-shen (Radix Codonopsitis) or American ginseng (Radix Pancis Quinquefolii), and lantern tridax (Herba Tridacis procumbentis)/Taiwan adenostema (Herba Adenostematis)/heartleaf houttuynia (Herba houttuyniae). So far, Taiwan adenostema, and heartleaf houttuynia have been found only in Taiwan. Lantern tridax has been found in Taiwan and South America.

For shortening an end flank phase, an additional substance is used whose activity is counter to the activity of the first substance and cancels, reduces, or overpowers this activity in its declining phase. Accordingly, with the aforementioned pharmaceutical, undesirable aftereffects of a pharmacologically active substance, for example, can be prevented.

The formulation comprises a pharmaceutical agent, an alkali metal alkyl sulphate, at least three micelle-forming compounds, a phenol and a propellant.
