  • Publication number: 20150086519
Abstract: A product capable of controlling odours arising from organic matter, and a method of making the product. The product comprises an admixture of a moldable thermoplastic and a benign dormant bacteria in a sporulated form, which admixture is formed by mixing the benign dormant bacteria into the moldable thermoplastic when the moldable thermoplastic is melted, and molding the admixture into a molded product. The benign dormant bacteria are embedded throughout the molded product, including being buried within a body of the molded product and being presented on a surface of the molded product. The benign dormant bacteria presented on the surface of the molded product are activatable upon exposure of the surface of the molded product to the organic matter, and the benign activated bacteria digest the organic matter to control production of offensive odours. Abrasive wear of the surface of the molded product exposes fresh benign dormant bacteria buried in the body to the surface for additional odour control.

Abstract: A protein-rich nutritional food product composed of a probiotic and an edible isolated protein. The probiotic component may comprise Lactobacillus, Bacillus, Streptococcus Bifidobacteria, Saccharomyces or Leuconostoc. The isolated protein may comprise whey proteins, whey growth factor extract, glutamine peptide, egg albumen, soy proteins, or caseinates. This nutritional composition can be in the form of a food product, dietary supplement, or medical food which, upon ingestion, will promote a healthy intestinal microenvironment, provide a source of protein, and assist in the elimination of nitrogenous waste products that can build up in concentration in the circulating blood. Increased concentrations of the wastes are known to exert a negative impact on an individual's physiology and contribute to a decreased sense of well-being and general malaise. Methods for removing nitrogenous waste products from the blood and ameliorating renal failure using the nutritional product of the invention are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8663926
Abstract: One major problem in diagnosis methods presently available for anthrax is that these methods require several days to produce a result. The only existing treatment for anthrax requires administration soon after infection at a time when patients are exhibiting only mild flu-like symptoms. Thus, a patient may be days beyond the time when treatment would be effective by the time a diagnosis is made. The present invention reduces diagnosis time to as little as four hours providing same day identification of anthrax radically increasing the odds of delivering proper treatment and patient recovery. The rapid identification of anthrax lethal factor activity exhibited by the instant invention is also amenable to in vivo screening protocols for the discovery and development of anthrax vaccines and lethal factor inhibitors. The instant invention isolates and concentrates lethal factor and lethal toxin from nearly any biological sample.
