  • Patent number: 4150929
Abstract: In a ribbon cable extrusion die assembly, a large plurality of fine electrical conductor wires, numbering from 20 up to 50, 60 or more, are led through a core tube via individual quills. Molten plastic insulating material is delivered to the exterior of the core tube, and surrounds the plurality of the conductor wires as they emerge from the core tube to enter the extrusion die. The aligned array of conductor wires and the molten plastic insulating material pass together through the extrusion die, which incorporates a cylndrical die passage for each individual conductor wire, with web passages connectng the cylindrical passages to form a unitary ribbon cable extrusion emerging from the extrusion die. The guiding quills are individually removable from the core tube, in response to the actuation of automatic wire breakage sensing and alarm systems for quick replacement of a broken conductor wire by a new unbroken conductor wire.

  • Patent number: 4122145
Abstract: A method and apparatus for continuously coating a thread or core with a thermoplastic is disclosed wherein a flowing stream of the plastic, in the form of a melt or liquid monomer is used to convey the core from one or more elongated and heated guide tubes into and through one or more elongated and cooled molding tubes axially aligned with each guide tube whereby the thread or core is automatically centered in the tubes and a uniform outer coating of hardened plastic is applied. The liquid monomer can be treated with a suitable activator or catalyst before entry into the mold tubes or at an intermediate mixing zone located between the exit part of the guide tubes and the inlet part of the cooling tubes. The mixing zone is larger in volume than the tubes and provides an off-center convolution about the exit ports of the guide tubes and coaxial conical exit ports converging into the entry ports of the molding tubes.

  • Patent number: 4112031
Abstract: Rubber hose with textile thread reinforcing is produced by extruding an inner tube of rubber material, cooling the extruded tube, applying a covering of textile thread over the inner tube and then extruding an outer layer of rubber material over the textile layer. Just before the outer layer is extruded on the inner tube it is heated by subjecting it to an ultrahigh frequency field. The outer layer is extruded on under a vacuum so that the inner tube which has been softened by the UHF heating is supported by the resulting pressure differential. The resulting hose is then vulcanized. By reason of the preheating of the inner tube, the inner and outer rubber layers are at approximately the same temperature and hence vulcanized equally. The application of a vacuum during the second extrusion has the further advantage of avoiding air inclusions between the inner and outer rubber layers.

  • Patent number: 3989431
Abstract: A pile extruder machine includes a hopper and a head or mandrel assembly extending from a support, into a moulding chamber assembly. Feed augers are provided on each side of the head or mandrel and these feed augers compress concrete from the hopper into the moulding chamber around the head or mandrel thus forming the pile and the compression moves the machine forwardly so that the pile is extruded rearwardly upon a pallet. A die assembly forms links of coil reinforcing around a coil support tube and the die assembly can be adjusted so that both the pitch and diameter of the lengths of coil can be adjusted. These coils are fed into the concrete mass at the base of the hopper and surround longitudinally extending reinforcing wires. They are drawn into the pile as it is formed and thus reinforce the piles circumferentially around the central aperture formed therein thus giving longitudinal and circumferential reinforcing to the finished pile.
