Patent number: 5310330Abstract: A resin article is made between an outer concave mold part and an inner convex mold part that can fit together so that respective surfaces form a substantially closed mold cavity. This is done by first lining the surface of the outer mold part with a liner sheet and then fitting the lined outer mold part to the inner mold part to form the substantially closed mold cavity. A portion of the surface of the inner mold part is positioned to form a pocket open inward into the cavity and this pocket is filled with a mass of fluent synthetic resin. The surface portion is then pressed inward while the parts are fitted together and without otherwise relatively moving the mold parts to force the resin mass from the pocket into the cavity until the inner-part surface portion lies substantially flush with the rest of the inner-part surface.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1992Date of Patent: May 10, 1994Assignee: Krauss-Maffei AktiengesellschaftInventors: Konrad Zweig, Erwin Burkle, Markus Spotzl

Patent number: 5158780Abstract: A device for simultaneously encapsulating a number of electronic components is provided with a locking mechanism in which a molding cycle has two phases, i.e. in a first transfer phase, during which plungers for injecting molten resin into encapsulation cavities are locked and driven at a high, controlled speed, followed by a second curing phase, during which the plungers are spring-loaded, unlocked, and stationary, and are subject to the same maximum pressure of the transfer phase. In this way damage to the products is prevented, while the cycle time is reduced and the products obtained have an even and smooth appearance.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1991Date of Patent: October 27, 1992Assignee: Boschman Technologies B.V.Inventors: Josephus J. Patent number: 5075066Abstract: In a method of making an ornament, a metal ornament body having an internal groove opening at one end to an end edge of the metal ornament body and at an opposite end to front and rear surfaces of the metal ornament body is held between two relatively movable mold members while the one end of the internal groove is connected to a gate of the mold members and the opposite end of the internal groove communicates with mold cavities in the mold members. Then, a melted synthetic resin material is injected into the mold cavities through the gate and the internal groove. The gate mark is not formed on the outside surface of an ornamental member molded of synthetic resin but left on the end edge of the metal ornament body. The gate mark thus formed is normally hidden from view and does not deteriorate the aesthetical appearance of the ornament.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1989Date of Patent: December 24, 1991Assignee: Yoshida Kogyo K.K.Inventors: Yasuharu Terada, Yoshiyuki Horita, Susumu Ishii

Patent number: 5049343Abstract: A highly efficient and highly controllable method and an apparatus for core-back injection molding of multi-component plastic products. Core-back injection molding makes possible the injection of a first plastic material into a mold cavity, followed by retracting a barrier means, in order to enable injection of a second plastic material without separating any mold halves. The present invention enables very efficient injection molding because both injection units may be operated at the time, and the present invention enables very controlled injection because it is possible to inject only one half of the cavities by a specific injection unit at the same time, or even only one quarter of the cavities by a specific injection unit at the same time. The injection molding apparatus includes a first injection unit, a second injection unit, a right adjustable mold cavity with a first moveable barring means, a left adjustable mold cavity with a second moveable barring means, and a common standard clamping unit.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1990Date of Patent: September 17, 1991Inventor: Jens O. Patent number: 4836762Abstract: Concrete elements, such as blocks or bricks, are molded or cast by forming in a primary mold cavity a secondary mold made of a portion of a thermoplastic film which has been contacted with a flat heater surface to assure a uniformly heated film portion which is then sucked into the primary mold cavity without wrinkles and filled with concrete mix. The secondary mold with the concrete mix in it is withdrawn, for example, sucked out of the primary mold cavity well before any effective hardening of the concrete mix, so that curing and hardening takes place in the secondary mold outside the primary mold cavity. This early withdrawing is important because it avoids expansion of the curing mix in the primary mold, whereby removal from the primary mold is facilitated. Additionally, the early removal with the aid of the secondary mold assures a more efficient use of the primary molds which are used again while the hardening is still going on in the secondary mold.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1987Date of Patent: June 6, 1989Inventor: Lindsey B. Davis, Jr.

Patent number: 4714575Abstract: A polyurethane RIM method has two mixheads. Reactants are brought to each mixhead and are supplied as separate streams to two spaced cavities in a mold having a pre-formed porous mat separating the two cavities. One stream contains an isocyanate, polyol, chain extender and crosslinker selected to have a very low viscosity and which reacts to produce a high modulus armature or load bearing member. The other stream contains a polyol and isocyanate with additives that have relatively high viscosity to produce a semi-rigid polyurethane foam. At each mixhead the proportions of ingredients are controlled to give a desired isocyanate index to control the flex modulus and other properties of the loading bearing member and foam molded components of the product. The low viscosity material penetrates the porous mat to reinforce it and the porosity of the mat prevents the high viscosity material from entering the armature cavity so as to reduce the load capacity of the finished product.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1986Date of Patent: December 22, 1987Assignee: Ex-Cell-O CorporationInventor: Frank J.
