  • Patent number: 6213746
Abstract: A die and process of reinforcing a resin with fibers. The die includes a first mold and a second mold positioned with respect to the first mold to define a passageway having an entrance portion, an exit portion, and a mixing chamber situated between the entrance portion and the exit portion. The first mold has a recess and the second mold has a protrusion which extends into the recess of the first mold to angle a portion of the passageway between the entrance portion and the mixing chamber. This angle is generally greater than about 90 degrees with respect to a direction in which the fibers may be drawn along an axis through the entrance portion. A roving of fibers is drawn into the die and through the entrance portion of the passageway. The fibers then pass through the angled portion of the passageway, wherein the fibers are forced to bend, causing the fibers to splay before entering the mixing chamber. As the fibers pass into the mixing chamber, the fibers are homogeneously impregnated with molten resin.

The apparatus is equipped with an endless belt having a number of air holes and is stretched between a heating drum and a cooling drum. After preheating, the sheet member is placed closely into contact with a surface of the endless belt through the use of a pressing roller and the sheet member is clamped between the endless belt and a metal pattern having a plurality of cavities formed therein. The apparatus further includes a pressure difference producing device which supplies pressurized air from a rear surface side of the endless belt toward the sheet member such that pressure on an upper surface of the sheet member becomes higher than pressure on a lower surface thereof. Consequently, the sheet member is formed into configurations corresponding to the configurations of the cavities of the metal pattern.

  • Patent number: 4952129
Abstract: A plant to manufacture elongated concrete elements, particularly railway sleepers of prestressed reinforced concrete. In the plant according to the invention, the forms for the production of said elements are supported on carriages sliding along parallel side-by-side tracks, and the operating machines designed to perform in succession a series of operations on said forms are positioned into a limited working area, housed inside a shed, and are mounted above said tracks, substantially fixed in respect of the longitudinal axis of the tracks but movable transversely thereto. The curing area for the concrete elements is arranged externally to the working area. In the case of prestressed reinforced concrete elements, the tensioning device for the reinforcement strands are mounted directly on each of said slidable carriages supporting the forms.

  • Patent number: 4850838
Abstract: An apparatus for producing a coating on a laminar carrier member, in particular for dressing split leather or similar substrates, comprises a supporting base having a surface consisting of silicon rubber or silicone resin, onto which surface is applied a liquid coating material by means of an electrostatic spraying device arranged above the supporting base for the purpose of producing a foil forming the visible side of the coating after solidification of the coating material. The surface of the supporting base is preferably provided with an embossed pattern, for example with the grain structure of natural leather. For the purpose of improving the adhesion of the foil, formed by solidification of the liquid coating material, on the supporting base, the surface of this supporting base is provided with a microscopic roughness. Alternatively, the area of the supporting base adjacent the aforesaid surface is made electrically conductive and held at a predetermined electrical potential.

  • Patent number: 4836762
Abstract: Concrete elements, such as blocks or bricks, are molded or cast by forming in a primary mold cavity a secondary mold made of a portion of a thermoplastic film which has been contacted with a flat heater surface to assure a uniformly heated film portion which is then sucked into the primary mold cavity without wrinkles and filled with concrete mix. The secondary mold with the concrete mix in it is withdrawn, for example, sucked out of the primary mold cavity well before any effective hardening of the concrete mix, so that curing and hardening takes place in the secondary mold outside the primary mold cavity. This early withdrawing is important because it avoids expansion of the curing mix in the primary mold, whereby removal from the primary mold is facilitated. Additionally, the early removal with the aid of the secondary mold assures a more efficient use of the primary molds which are used again while the hardening is still going on in the secondary mold.

  • Patent number: 4806405
Abstract: A link chain or string is produced in an injection molding tool in such a way that a plurality of links threaded onto a string or cable are molded simultaneously, for example in the form of spheres. In order to avoid the transmission of axial forces to the links, which forces might disturb the axial spacings from link to link, the injection molding tool is provided with restrictions which reduce the cross-sectional area of molten material flow channels to a minimum. Preferably, the restricted area is located directly at the respective link. The channels all lead to a common injection molding channel to which the molten material is supplied for thus simultaneously casting or molding of a plurality of links to strings or cables. The restrictions make sure that any forces resulting from shrinkage during the cooling and solidifying cannot shift the balls or links even if the latter are not yet completely solidified internally. Thus, errors in the on-center spacing between adjacent links are avoided.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing an elongated, box-like structural component comprising two mutually opposing side-members (1, 2) which define a cavity therebetween. The mutually opposing surfaces of the side-members present longitudinally extending grooves into which projections on distance pieces (3) located between the members engage. In the process of manufacturing the structural component pairs of boards or the like are advanced in spaced relationship in the longitudinal direction of the boards into a receiving station (7) with the grooved inner surfaces of the boards facing one another, the distance pieces (3) being placing between the boards as they enter the station (7). As the boards leave the station, they are pressed towards one another in a manner to bring the projections on the distance pieces (3) into engagement with the grooves on the inwardly facing surfaces of the boards.
