Patent number: 5275056Abstract: A gyratory shear material compacting device in which a material sample is placed within a cylindrical mold having a wobble plate. The material sample is compressed by a piston while the mold is simultaneously gyrated. Gyration is achieved by tilting the mold and holding the wobble plate within rollers which revolve around the mold, controlling the selected angle of tilt while imparting oscillatory gyration. The selected angle of tilt of the mold may be precisely controlled at all times, preventing the mold from riding up on the sample, or from coming into contact with the base of the device. The mold is free to advance rotationally. The device is capable of measuring and recording the height of the sample, angle of gyration, and moment of gyration.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1992Date of Patent: January 4, 1994Assignee: Rainhart Co.Inventors: Edward R. The conduit leads through a regulator device to a gas source. Connected to the conduit, between the regulator device and the orifice, is a pressure sensor such as a pressure difference switch. If the level of molten material in the dome rises above a preselected level, it blocks the opening and produces a back-pressure in the conduit. The switch is automatically actuated by this back-pressure and produces a signal. Appropriate action can then be taken to prevent the further rise of the molten material in the dome and to prevent blockage of the degassing device.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1983Date of Patent: November 27, 1984Assignee: Hermann Berstorff Maschinenbau GmbHInventors: Dietmar Anders, Jurgen Voigt, Heinrich Kruse

Patent number: 4473345Abstract: An inlet gas pressure passageway is associated with the movable mold section of a molding press and terminates at and therefore in the plane of the surface of said movable mold section which confronts the surface of the fixed mold section of the press. An outlet gas pressure passageway is associated with the fixed mold section and terminates at and therefore in the plane of the surface of said fixed mold section in alignment with the inlet passageway opening. Air or other gas under a predetermined superatmospheric is applied to the inlet passageway for delivery to the outlet passageway, and the latter is connected to a pressure switch operable at said predetermined gas pressure to effect application of high hydraulic closing pressure to the movable mold section.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1982Date of Patent: September 25, 1984Assignee: Hull CorporationInventor: William McDowall

Patent number: 4461569Abstract: A non-contact measuring apparatus for determining errors in concentricity between an elongated electrically conductive core such as a wire and an insulation coating thereon is disclosed. An optical scanning section produces an electrical signal proportional to the position of the coating at the same time that a capacitance section produces an electrical signal proportional to the position of the core. A comparator compares the two signals to yield a difference or error signal proportional to the error of concentricity and the result is continuously displayed to show the axis and magnitude of the error.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 1982Date of Patent: July 24, 1984Assignee: The Electron Machine CorporationInventor: James O. Patent number: 4421467Abstract: A system for diagnosing fault conditions in an automatic or semiautomatic machines, such as injection molding machines. The diagnostic system comprises a display panel having a plurality of lights or other visual indicators grouped in sets for the respective subsequences of the machine cycle, and if no fault conditions occur and the machine cycles properly, the sets of lights will be energized in succession so that the operator is continuously apprised of the condition of the machine. If a fault condition should occur, one or more of the lights in the set corresponding to the subsequence that the machine is presently implementing will not be energized, and the pattern of energized lights in that set is coded to the particular fault condition that has occurred. By correlating the code with a fault code listing, the operator can quickly identify the location and nature of the malfunction.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1982Date of Patent: December 20, 1983Assignee: HPM CorporationInventor: Dennis W. Patent number: 4395375Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided an improved arrangement for and method of electrically testing a cord-set during the molding of the male plug and female receptacle to the opposite ends of the insulated electric cord. In order to accomplish this, the mold for forming the molded plug and receptacle is provided with suitable contacts which upon the closing of the mold automatically establish electrical connections between the terminals of the cord-set and circuits in testing apparatus. These tests consist of checking for continuity in each conductor and for shorts between conductors or terminals and a skin ground test for the purpose of detecting stray strands of wire or any current carrying object that would carry current to the outside surface of the molded plug or receptacle.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1974Date of Patent: July 26, 1983Assignee: Electrolux CorporationInventors: William E. Patent number: 4387336Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and method for continuously detecting skips, protrusions, protuberances and other defects in cable conductor shield, comprising a high voltage electrode, a capacitance bridge filter circuit and a corona discharge detector. A noncontacting coaxial electrode is employed to create an electric field between the cable conductor and the electrode. In the presence of this field, defects in the shield produce corona discharges. A detection circuit employing a capacitance bridge is employed to continuously detect corona discharges and produce signals used for subsequently locating the positions of the defects on the finished cable.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1980Date of Patent: June 7, 1983Assignee: Southwire CompanyInventors: Edward B. Patent number: 4342549Abstract: An apparatus is provided for coding articles of manufacture which are produced in a die or mold, such as by molding, casting or other process in which a moldable material is either flow formed or pressure formed to shape. In one form, a plurality of projectible and retractable pins or shafts are movably supported within at least one section of a mold and are selectively advanced or retracted to either partly extend across the mold or die cavity or extend completely thereacross for producing a coded array of cavities or such an array of holes extending completely through a portion of a wall of an object formed in the mold. Projection and retraction of the pins or shafts is effected by respective powered devices, such as fluidic cylinders, motors or electric solenoids. In another form, a plurality of pins or otherwise shaped devices are selectively actuated or disposed by a manipulator operating from outside the mold while the mold is open, against respective portions of the mold cavity wall.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 1980Date of Patent: August 3, 1982Inventor: Jerome H. Patent number: 4335778Abstract: Apparatus for measuring injection speeds of a die casting machine comprises a detecting device for detecting injection times at low and high speed injection strokes, calculating elements for calculating low and high injection speeds by dividing the low and high injection strokes by the injection times, and displaying elements for displaying the low and high injection speeds as average injection speeds. The injection time detecting device includes an elongated member having different magnetic characteristics, an element responsive to the characteristics to generate pulse signal, low and high speed injection limit switches, and a discriminating element for discriminating the period of the signal generated by the pulse signal generating element. The injection speeds of the die casting machine can be measured and displayed by the interrelative operations of the elements and devices described above.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1980Date of Patent: June 22, 1982Assignee: Toshiba Kikai Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Noriyuki Motomura, Hiroyuki Tsuboi

Patent number: 4294791Abstract: A process for producing a film of a thermoplastic resin, characterized in that the rotation of a cooling drum for cooling a molten film-like extrudate is controlled such that the variation rate (%) of instantaneous rotation under no load (as defined in the specification) is less than about 1%, and that the cooled film-like extrudate is withdrawn from the cooling drum so that substantially no tension in the subsequent stretching step is exerted on the film-like extrudate on the cooling drum. The process is preferably applicable to a film-forming apparatus which operates at high speeds. A film having markedly reduced thickness unevenness is produced.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 1979Date of Patent: October 13, 1981Assignee: Teijin LimitedInventors: Hiroshi Nouda, Yoshiaki Tanihara, Takashi Ikeda, Ituo Ogiuchi
