  • Patent number: 4743192
Abstract: A resin injection metal mold unit comprising, in combination, a metal mold consisting of a cavity section and a core section, and stationary and movable metal mold supporting members for releasably holding the metal mold sections in the opposing relationship. Each supporting member has a plurality of clamping members for engaging an associated mold section. Each clamping member has a clamping slant in the complementary relationship with the counter slant chamfer of the mold section. Such members are slidably attached to an associated supporting member so as to move close and apart from the mold section. When a mold section is fixed to an associated supporting member, the clamping members are brought in contact with the mold section with their clamping slants closely fitting the counter chamfer slants of the mold section, and then clamping members are fixed to the supporting member by driving associated bolts, thereby pushing and holding the mold section against the supporting member.

  • Patent number: 4605368
Abstract: This relates to a blow molding apparatus of the rotary wheel type and particularly relates to supplying fluids, such as air, vacuum and water to a mold half and its associated carrier in a manner which permits the reciprocation of the mold half and associated carrier between a mold open position and a mold closed position. This is facilitated by the use of short lengths of hose which are attached to respective manifolds by swivels. The swivels permit the ends of the hose to change their angular relationship as one end of each hose moves relative to an opposite end of the hose. Adjacent ones of the hoses are located in adjacent parallel planes and are initially bowed in one direction and reverse their direction of bow as movable ends of the hoses move beyond fixed ends of the hoses. The carrier for the movable mold half has associated therewith a cam follower for engaging a cam which effects the opening and closing of the mold.

  • Patent number: 4195048
Abstract: An absolute-coded angular position indicator coupled to the shiftable one of two mold-clamping plates, produces a position signal indicating the position of the shiftable plate. This signal is applied to one input of a subtractor, whose output signal is displayed on a numerical display. The subtracting input of the subtractor receives a corrective signal from a manually set decades switch arrangement. When no mold is present between the clamping plates and the latter are pressed into direct contact with each other, the displayed numerical value is zero. When a mold is clamped between the plates, an non-zero value is displayed, and the set-up technician sets the decades switch arrangement to the displayed value. As a result the displayed value goes to zero. The output signal of the subtractor is furnished to control elements which must control machine operations in dependence upon the height of the particular mold being employed.

  • Patent number: 4174199
Abstract: An injection mold has a pair of die plates upon which two mold parts are mounted and are mutually guided for relative movement. One of the mold parts comprises a pair of die jaws which are separable transversely to the direction of relative movement of the two mold parts with the jaws being guided on the respective die plate by guide assemblies disposed externally of the mold. Each guide assembly comprises a guide bar forming a groove in which a ridge of the jaws is slidable and which is affixed to a retaining bar so that the two parts abut one another in the plane of the junction of the mold part with its die plate. The retaining bar is fastened to the die plate and surfaces of the bars can be machined to compensate for wear.

  • Patent number: 3998573
Abstract: Friction elements, composed of fillers including at least five percent by weight of asbestos, bonded by a thermosetting resin, are first produced as pre-forms of final density by merely stamping the dry mixture in a die cavity. The problem of delamination is overcome by making provision for passages in one of the mold cavity members, said passages leading from the mold cavity to the ambient atmosphere. Sustained operation at high speed is made possible by screening the ends of the passages which open into the die cavity. The stamped article is removed from the die cavity and subjected to a time-temperature curing cycle to cure or thermally harden the bonding resin.

  • Patent number: 3981671
Abstract: A clamp for holding together the portions of a mold used in molding solid objects from a reacting liquid such as polyurethane has a C-shaped frame which is pivotally mounted on a pedestal to swing through an arc. The C-shaped frame of the clamp consists of an integral structure having an upper jaw connected by a column to a lower jaw. The frame supports a bed, crown and platen. The bed and crown are each a plate-like member that is mounted to pivot relative to one of the jaws. The platen is mounted preferably on the bed or lower one of such members. The mold portions are mounted on the crown and platen with the parts being arranged to move so that the mold portion engage and disengage. The invention also includes a method of molding wherein the mold portions are engaged and disengaged by a process that involves pivoting at least one and preferably both of the portions relative to the C-shaped frame.

Abstract: A die segment for a briquetting roll in which the roll is a steel body which is provided with a peripheral groove having a radially outwardly facing bottom wall which is made up of planar chordal segments and having side walls at the side edges of the bottom wall with one side wall inclined inwardly in the outward direction and being in the form of an annular segment of a cone concentric with the axis of the roll and the other side wall substantially radial. The die segments are bodies of hard wear resistant material mounted in the groove, one on each chordal section of the bottom wall of the groove and each has one side inclined to fit the inclined wall of the groove with the other side spaced from and diverging from the radial side wall in the outward direction. Wedge bars between the radial side wall of the groove and the opposed sides of the die segments are utilized for clamping the segments in place in the roll.
