  • Patent number: 5108188
Abstract: A method for producing a rubber mixture. In a first stage, in a ram kneader, a master batch is produced, and in a second stage, in a batch-type process, a final mixture is produced in a ram-less kneader, without the need for intermediate storage. To improve the cooling in the ram-less kneader, the interior of this kneader is supplied with air that has such a degree of dryness that a condensation deposit is precluded. To achieve this, an essentially air tight channel is provided between the two kneaders, with a place being provided in the channel for the bottom closure of the ram kneader in a swung-out position of this closure.

  • Patent number: 5089190
Abstract: A method and apparatus for dispensing a foamable, pressurized solution of a gas and a high viscosity polymeric material in a manner which produces a foamed bead having a hollow core. Initial foaming occurs in a nozzle through which the solution is dispensed to atmosphere, at a core of the bead. Subsequent foaming of of the bead exteriorly of the core occurs outside the nozzle, and results in an extruded, foamed bead of high viscosity polymeric material having a tubular shape and particularly suitable for form-in-place gasket applications.

  • Patent number: 4994223
Abstract: An extruder screw and a method for extrusion to achieve high output rates with thermally sensitive plastic materials and without thermal degradation problems involving the use of a single flight metering type extruder screw having an initial feed zone, distal metering zone, and a transition zone interconnecting the feed and metering zones. In particular, improvements in the extrusion of thermally sensitive plastics such as PVC are achieved through use of a compression ratio of approximately 2:1, a constant lead and pitch, and a proportioning of the length of the feed zone, transition zone, and metering zone relative to the total length of the zones of 27-33%, 23-25%, and 45-48%, respectively. To achieve cooler and more uniform mixing with rigid PVC, polyethylene and like materials, an improved arrangement for using rings of mixing pins is provided.

Abstract: Electrode materials containing active material in a fibrillated polymer binder are formed continuously into a cohesive electrode component by utilizing a barrel for processing the electrode materials. A mechanism is provided in the barrel for axially advancing the electrode materials, while mixing and kneading the materials to fibrillate the polymer binder. A forming means at the end of the barrel receives the resultant mixture and continuously forms a cohesive component of fibrillated polymer binder and active material as other electrode materials continue to be advanced and processed in the barrel.

  • Patent number: 4943402
Abstract: Removing chloroprene dimers from polychloroprene by feeding to a screw extruder a polychloroprene latex and coagulating the latex in the extruder, feeding the coagulated latex to a dewatering zone and discharging the coagulated polychloroprene through a flow restriction which heats and pressurizes the polychloroprene to an area of reduced pressure to form a porous crumb. Also, the flow restriction applies back pressure sufficient that the water in the polychloroprene is forced out of a vent port. The polychloroprene crumb discharged from the extruder is heated to strip chloroprene dimer therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4942842
Abstract: A conveyor roller (8) has circular-saw-shaped teeth (28) on its circumference. By means of the conveyor roller set in rotation, shavings are pared off cubes of fat (9) and uniformly fill up the tooth gaps (27). The fat is conveyed along a cylindrical housing part (29) to a nozzle space (36). The nozzle space is bounded by an adjustable end portion (30) of the housing part and an adjustable stripper (32). At the end of the nozzle space, a homogeneous strip of fat is discharged through a nozzle orifice (40). The stripper has a control portion which is actuated by the teeth on the circumference of the conveyor roller. Another stripper portion (37) continually removes the fat in each tooth gap. Fats of very different consistencies can be processed. Optimum plasticization takes place during transformation of the cubes of fat into a strip of fat. The fat is warmed only a very little during the transformation operation. Thin strips of fat having great homogeneity can be produced.
