Abstract: An apparatus for mechanically separating water from coal includes a vibrating hopper, two contra-rotating cylinders, a solid collector, and a fluid collector. The hopper feeds hydrated coal or coal slurry to wells which are arranged along the surface of a first rotating cylinder. A second rotating cylinder has protrusions on its surface which are precisely placed such that when the first and second cylinders are brought in contact and rotated in contra-rotating directions, each of the wells of the first cylinder and a corresponding protrusion of the second cylinder form mating female and male dies. Coal in the female dies is pressed, and the moisture in the coal is squeezed out. The coal remaining in the dies is then delivered to the solid collector via a pusher. The distance between the cylinders may be varied through adjustable cylinder bearings or pillow blocks. Both the male and female dies may be removed and replaced.

Abstract: A molding and portioning apparatus is intended primarily for processing formable food products into individual portions of uniform shape, size and weight, while doubling output. The apparatus includes first and second spaced hoppers which receive a supply of a food product under a predetermined pressure, and discharge the product through a plurality of outlet openings formed therein. A plurality of pistons are slideably mounted within a plurality of cylinders which communicate with the hoppers and are aligned with and opposite of the outlet openings. Each piston is independently pneumatically biased in the direction of the hoppers under a certain pressure which is less than the predetermined pressure of the product, for generally equalizing the pressure applied to the product at each of the outlet openings.

Abstract: A briquetting machine, primarily intended for briquetting fibrous plant material, includes a pair of rotatable wheels. Each wheel has die means towards its outer periphery and the die means define a circular row of pockets in which the material is received and compressed. During rotation the wheels come together to define a nip between the wheels. To provide for a varying volume of feed of material the wheels are relatively movable to vary the size of the pockets. Furthermore the die means include male and female, overlapping dies. In the bases of the dies are located ejector members which are urged outwards to eject compacted briquettes from the dies. To compress the material prior to entry into the dies there may be a precompression channel which converges toward its outlet end, opposite converging walls of the channels being formed of compression members which move towards one another and towards the outlet end.

Abstract: The invention relates to a machine for manufacturing flat bodies in a continuous linear process. This is attained by the intermittent forward movement of the moulds on a closed circuit static runway, passing through the various operative steps for forming the pieces. The runway defines a rectangular trajectory and the moulds are square with bevelled vertices forming vertical channels for the actuation of centering elements. The moulds cover the totality of the circuit with the exception of two spaces at the diagonally opposed angles. Each straight section is provided with a pusher facing a buffer for the simultaneous and combined action until each mould reaches the end of the circuit. At a point of the circuit there is a fixed hopper beneath which there reciprocally moves a carriage bearing a metering hopper. Once the pieces have been formed they are removed by a pneumatic extractor having a multiple suction head.
