Abstract: An extruder apparatus and method for producing an extruded tubing having varying inner dimensions without changing the outer dimensions. The tubing is forced from the die face of an extrusion head having an extruder die and an internal mandrel determining the outer and inner dimensions, respectively, of the extruded tubing. The outer dimensions of the mandrel varied by the user to change the inner dimensions of the extruded tubing. A pressure is maintained in the extruded tubing to prevent its collapse and that pressure is changed based upon the change of the external dimensions of the mandrel and the wall thickness of the tubing. In one embodiment, the mandrel is comprised of a core and a plurality of telescoping sleeves. Each sleeve is movable between a retracted position where the sleeve is displaced away from the die face and an extended position where sleeve is at the die face. • Patent number: 6354828
Abstract: An extrusion head for blow molding extruded plastic containers, with a ring gap nozzle having a mandrel and a ring-shaped nozzle body having an elastically deformable sleeve, and setting devices for radially deforming the elastic sleeve. The sleeve defines a nozzle gap, the width of which is variable by axially movement of the mandrel and/or of the nozzle body. The geometry of the gap can be changed by deforming the sleeve in the course of extrusion of a hose-like, pre-shaped blank. The sleeve is axially supported in the nozzle body, and/or on the mandrel only on segment-like surfaces.

  • Patent number: 6322347
Abstract: The invention provides systems, methods, and articles useful in the production of foams, and, in particular microcellular foams. The systems include a restriction element that reduces the backflow of polymer melt in an extruder while polymeric material is injected into a mold or ejected from a die. The restriction element is positioned upstream of a blowing agent injection port to maintain the solution of polymer and blowing agent in the extruder above a minimum pressure throughout an injection or ejection cycle, and preferably above the critical pressure required for the maintenance of a single-phase solution of polymer and blowing agent. The systems can be used in injection molding, blow molding, or in any other processing techniques that include injection or ejection cycles. In some embodiments, the systems utilize reciprocating screws for injection or ejection.

Abstract: The die includes a central core and an annular ring arranged around the core, so as to define an annular slit for extruding a material, as well as a multiple number of inserts peripherally arranged around the ring and mechanically tied to the same, and device for heating the inserts independently from each other, so as to be able to change by thermal deformation of the inserts, the thickness of the annular slit. The inserts are radially arranged around the ring and attached to the structure of the machine on the inner side, next to the ring, while their free opposite extremities are free to radially slide so as to expand toward the out. Devices mechanically tie the inserts to the ring and devices heat and/or cool the inserts.

A feed diaphragm member has a portion which converges to an opening which opens to a distribution chamber which diverges so that substance being extruded is distributed to the central and tubular ducts. Diaphragms are provided in the ducts to delimit passage of extrudate substance into the ducts. Additionally, members are provided for altering the position of the central duct and its duct outlet relative to the second duct member and its outlet.
