With the invention it has been found that the expansion which arises can be controlled in a highly constant manner, i.e. by carrying out the extrusion into a closed chamber in which an over-pressure of a few bar is established in relation to the atmospheric pressure, and which can be regulated. The extrusion products can be continuously discharged from this chamber, or they can be discharged intermittently in portions.

Abstract: A shaped rubber body with improved uniformity in terms of weight and/or physical properties is produced by extruding a rubber strip by a positive displacement extruding system that includes, as seen from an upstream side of the rubber strip, a screw extruder unit, a gear pump unit and an extrusion head unit with an extrusion nozzle, which are connected in series with each other. The rubber strip is fed to a rotating support along a substantially straight passage extending from the screw extruder unit to the extrusion nozzle of the extrusion head unit, passed through a gap defined between a pair of pressure roll, and applied onto an outer surface of the support by one of the pressure rolls.

Abstract: Tire rubber material is highly accurately and efficiently extruded by a positive displacement extruding system that includes, as seen from an upstream side of the tire rubber, a screw extruder unit, a gear pump unit and an extrusion head unit with an extrusion nozzle, which are connected in series with each other. While the tire rubber is caused to flow through the extruding system, the temperature of the rubber material is measured and controlled to be within a predetermined temperature range, in accordance with the measured temperature of the rubber material. The rubber material maintained at a controlled temperature is extruded from the extrusion nozzle, thereby improving the positive displacement performance of the extruding system.

Abstract: The device (10) has at least one feed instrument (12) for feeding a compound through a channel (24a; 24b; 24c) to a die (14). In order to prevent damage or destruction of the extruded compound during processing and to detect “overageing” of the compound, a sensing instrument (60a; 60b; 60c) is provided at the channel (24a; 24b; 24c) or at the die (14) in order to determine at least one measured variable (Pa; Pb; Pc) related to the viscosity of the compound. The feed instrument (12) and the die (14) are configured in such a way that the feed instrument (12) has a delivery pressure which oscillates over time at a frequency, and the die (14) has a flow resistance which oscillates at the same frequency.

The dynamic flow inducer comprises a movable member, such as, for example, a rotatable bar disposed transversely relative to the flow of the fluid through the discharge mouth. As the extrudable fluid is passing through the discharge mouth, the motion of the dynamic flow inducer retards the accumulation of contaminant and thereby prevents clogging of the extrusion die.

This process requires a novel device. The device can be used to produce high bandwidth gradient-index plastic optical fiber (GRIN-POF). This fiber is highly advantageous for use in high speed local area networks (LANs) as well as other short-range optical communication applications. The device can also be used to produce GRIN lenses which can be used in the focusing and transmission of images.
