Abstract: The invention relates mold, particularly a mold for producing foam articles. In a preferred embodiment, the mold comprises a lid and a bowl releasingly engageable to define a mold cavity, the lid comprising: (i) a vent having a passageway for gas to escape from the mold cavity, and (ii) a plurality of grooves connected to the vent. The use of a plurality of grooves/slots in the mold cavity surface effectively acts as a siphon to draw gas away from the composition to be molded. The plurality of grooves/slots is connected to one or more vents which then allows for escape of the gas from the mold cavity to the exterior of the mold.

  • Patent number: 6280176
Abstract: A vent tube assembly is disclosed for use in a vent hole commonly found in metal molds which are used to produce, by rotational molding processes, a wide variety of plastic goods. The main body of the vent tube assembly is produced from a heat resistant, thermoplastic composition. Preferably, the composition will be polyetheretherketone (PEEK). The vent tube assembly resembles a probe-like rod comprising: a large diameter annular top section; an annular mid-section that is substantially smaller in diameter than the annular top section; and an annular bottom section that is slightly smaller in diameter than the annular mid-section and that terminates in with a rounded innermost tip. An elongated central bore is provided through the vent tube assembly. The central bore, along with a counterbore located near the top of the annular top section, provides an air escape passageway. The passageway fluidly communicates with the interior of the mold via a plurality of pore-like holes situated near the innermost tip.

  • Patent number: 4282024
Abstract: A polycrystalline article is densified to provide either a nonporous body or a body with controlled interconnected porosity. A mixture of fine powders of the polycrystalline material and a sintering aid is compacted and outgassed under reduced pressure. The outgassed compact is then subjected to a permeation anneal step in which it is heated in a closed chamber to a temperature sufficient to form a liquid of the sintering aid, but under pressure conditions which inhibit evaporation of the sintering aid. The sintering aid can then be leached out to provide a densified article having interconnected porosity. Alternatively, the sintering aid can be leached out at elevated temperature, further densifying the compact to form a substantially nonporous body. Alternatively, the sintering aid can be removed by subjecting the densified article to an evaporation anneal step in which the article is heated to evaporate the sintering aid, further densifying the compact to form a substantially nonporous article.
