Patent number: 5766653Abstract: The invention which is the subject of this application relates to apparatus for use in forming a malleable material such as, but not exclusively, modelling clay into a desired shape. The apparatus is provided for the reception of mold pieces therein which determine the shape of the malleable material and said mold pieces are arranged to be brought together to press the malleable material placed between the same into the required shape. The apparatus further includes a member which serves to locate and support the malleable material in the form of the shaped article in a fixed position at least at the instant when the mold pieces are moved apart thereby ensuring that the malleable material is not damaged by the removal of the mold pieces and is not required to be handled or held while the mold pieces are moved apart. This therefore minimizes the damage to the article formed.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1995Date of Patent: June 16, 1998Assignee: Origin Products Ltd.Inventors: Christopher Charles Wiggs, Christopher Joseph Crabtree Taylor

A rubber resilient shaping plate (8) is used, which, through foldable areas (12), is connected with projecting wing portions (10) each associated with a depending rubber rod (16). At their lower ends these rods are rigidly attached to an actuator plate (18), which, in being raised relative to the shaping plate (8), urges the rubber rods upwardly for folding the wing portions (19) up- and inwardly.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1993Date of Patent: May 23, 1995Assignee: Form & Frys Maskinteknik ApSInventor: Poul E. Patent number: 5395232Abstract: An apparatus for opening and closing a mold is described herein, wherein a movable mold is revolved and pivotally moved in association with a mold opening and closing operation. When opened, the mold is maintained in a sideways position such that the mold surface faces outwardly. In this manner, the molded article recovery operation is simplified, and monitoring of the mold surface by an industrial television set (ITV) is facilitated. In the mold opening operation, the movable mold begins at a position opposed to a fixed mold. As the mold is opened, a pinion is rotatively driven by a rack which is moved downward in association with the mold opening operation. In this manner, a rotatable block is revolved and pivotally moved along with the movable mold to a position so that the movable mold and the molded article are pointed outwardly. Ejection pins may then be used to eject the molded article off the mold.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1992Date of Patent: March 7, 1995Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Sanjoseiki SeisakushoInventor: Nobuo Hori

Patent number: 5114654Abstract: For forming a resin-impregnated, fiber reinforced composite material sheet having laminated meshes of fibers into a U-shaped cross section, the sheet is placed onto a stationary forming die and an auxiliary forming die with the fibers of the sheet forming angles of approximately 45.degree. relative to opposite edges of an upper reference forming surface of the stationary die. Then, the sheet is pressed from above by a pneumatically expandable, elastic depressing die, whereby the auxiliary forming die is lowered against a resilient force relative to the stationary forming die. As the sheet is pressed further downwardly by the depressing die, the parts of the sheet which are to form flanges of the product are firmly held between the depressing die and the auxiliary forming die and bent downwards while the parts are subjected to extending forces in directions to prevent creases and lines from being formed by means of auxiliary forming ridges on the auxiliary forming die.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1990Date of Patent: May 19, 1992Assignee: Fuji Jukogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Masanori Hosoi

Patent number: 4007679Abstract: A press mechanism that is powered by hydraulic, electrical and/or pneumatic means is provided with an improved ratchet and pawl machine which acts as a fail-safe device should any of the power means fail to lock the press parts in place. The fail-safe device includes a ratchet in the form of a circular or arcuate segment mounted with its circular center substantially coaxial with one of the turning parts of the mechanism or press, a pawl having a single tooth and a circular arcuate peripheral part that acts as a journal bearing and which in turn is supported by a pawl bearing which in turn is secured to a stationary part of the mechanism and has an arcuate journal which receives and supports the pawl therein. Tremendous load carrying capacity is thus achieved because of the large bearing area provided by the pawl bearing and the positioning of the respective ratchet and pawl teeth to employ a surface rather than point contact.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1976Date of Patent: February 15, 1977Assignee: Cincinnati Milacron, Inc.Inventor: Bobbie Lee Edwards

Patent number: 3997286Abstract: A press and vacuum box combination for manufacturing articles from fluent, curable or hardenable material within a vacuum atmosphere, especially designed to provide access to the mold parts, optimum article handling and improved safety. The press has side frame members, a cross head lying in a horizontal plane and extending between the side frame members, an axially reciprocable ram movable between raised and lowered positions, a platen associated with the cross head and a platen associated with the ram. A mold part is associated with each of said platens, and the mold parts are arranged for movement between opened and closed positions. In the closed position, the mold parts define at least one cavity having the shape of an article to be molded in the press. One of the platens has means at one edge thereof for hingedly mounting the platen for movement between raised and lowered positions with respect to the cross head. Means are associated with the cross head for supporting the hinged mounting means.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1976Date of Patent: December 14, 1976Assignee: Chicago Rawhide Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Kenneth F.
