Movement of the movable plate assembly relative to the fixed plate assembly causes the ratchet sleeve to rotate to move the molded tabs and ribs away from the recesses of the blades so that the finished cap can be stripped from the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5658603
Abstract: Compositions, methods, and systems for manufacturing articles, particularly containers and packaging materials, having a highly inorganically filled matrix. Suitable inorganically filled mixtures are prepared by mixing together an organic polymer binder, water, one or more aggregate materials, fibers, and optional admixtures in the correct proportions in order to form an article which has the desired performance criteria. The inorganically filled mixtures are molded to fashion a portion of the mixture into a form stable shape for the desired article. Once the article has obtained form stability, the article is removed from the mold and allowed to harden to gain strength. The articles may have properties substantially similar to articles presently made from traditional materials like paper, paperboard, polystyrene, plastic, or metal. They have especial utility in the mass production of containers, particularly food and beverage containers.

Abstract: A mold construction for allowing molding of parts having elements with a helical configuration. The helically configured portion is formed by a portion of the mold that is freely rotatable relative to the rest of the mold about the axis of the helically configured portion. The extraction of the molded component from the mold along a path coextensive with the axis of the helically configured portion produces driven rotation of the rotatable mold portion thereby releasing the molded component.

  • Patent number: 5153007
Abstract: A rotary injection molding press having a rotatable platform with a plurality of mold blocks is disclosed, wherein a controller box containing individual temperature control units is mounted on the rotatable platform so as to reliably maintain independent temperature control of each mold block. The controller box includes a rotary coupler for providing a rotating electrical connection from the stationary frame to the controller box, wherein the rotary coupler comprises pairs of wetted electrodes connected through separated pools of mercury. Using this configuration, a highly reliable rotating connection is provided which is substantially frictionless and has a consistently low resistance. Furthermore, by locating the individual temperature control units in a single controller box positioned on the rotatable platform itself, the problem of routing the sensitive control loop signals through a rotating electrical connection is avoided.

  • Patent number: 4946539
Abstract: This invention is generally accomplished by providing continuous self-adhesive strands of elastic to a substrate having retractable supports extending therefrom. The retractable supports in a convex pattern are contracted with the self-adhering elastic and the substrate bearing the elastic and supports is brought into contact with the web to which the elastic is to be transferred. The series of supports around which the elastic contacts are forced to retract as the self-adhering elastic is pressed against the web causing the elastic to transfer to the substrate thereby creating an elastic band on the substrate.
