  • Patent number: 4795333
Abstract: Rotary forging of a component from powder is accomplished in a single forging operation without any sintering or other processing by firstly pressing the powder in a closed die situation to produce an initial compressed form and then subjecting this compressed form to a rotary forging process.

  • Patent number: 4726873
Abstract: This invention is generally accomplished by providing continuous self-adhesive strands of elastic to a substrate having retractable supports extending therefrom. The retractable supports in a convex pattern are contracted with the self-adhering elastic and the substrate bearing the elastic and supports is brought into contact with the web to which the elastic is to be transferred. The series of supports around which the elastic contacts are forced to retract as the self-adhering elastic is pressed against the web causing the elastic to transfer to the substrate thereby creating an elastic band on the substrate. In a preferred form the substrate is fed two strips of self-adhering elastic that are applied on each side of a series of a convex pattern of pins and then pressed together around opposing sides of the convex pattern of pins to seal the elastic to itself and sever the elastic, creating a contoured closed loop around the pins.

  • Patent number: 4690631
Abstract: A packerhead concrete pipe making machine having a rotatable packerhead operable to form a concrete pipe in an upright cylindrical mold about a wire cage. The packerhead has a plurality of rollers rotatably mounted on a circular plate operable to pack concrete into a cylindrical shape in the mold. Each roller has an outer sleeve of elastic rubber material. A cylindrical wall secured to the plate supports an annular troweling member operable to finish the inside surface of the concrete pipe.

  • Patent number: 4565664
Abstract: Herein disclosed is a process of manufacturing drawn tubing, in which steps of applying a lubricant to the surface of a bottomed blank fitted on a mandrel, pushing out the mandrel to draw the blank through a die, and pulling in the drawn blank together with the mandrel out of the die are repeated in the recited order. The drawn blank is turned a predetermined angle, e.g., 180 degrees on the axis thereof during each of the repeating steps i.e., during or after the pulling step. As a result, the lubricant can be applied to another portion of the blank surface at a second or subsequent applying step so that the working conditions which might otherwise become different to cause the drawn blank to have a locally irregular or offset thickness can be made uniform in the circumferential direction of the blank.

  • Patent number: 4395220
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus and a process for forming building blocks by consolidating a mixture of cement and fibrous material. The process involves placing a charge of the mixture into a mold, compressing the mixture within the mold, inserting rotors into the mixture within the mold to consolidate and displace the mixture while forming hollow cores through the formed block, and removing the rotors from the formed block and the block from the mold. The apparatus includes a mold, a mold cover, means that apply pressure to the mold cover to compress the material placed within the mold rotors, means for spinning the rotors as they are lowered into and raised from the mixture by raising and lowering means. The block is formed on a removable pallet resting on lips within the mold. The pallet defines apertures substantially aligned with the rotors; the apertures allow for release of pressure when the rotors are withdrawn from the formed block.

  • Patent number: 4084932
Abstract: An improved mandrel assembly construction for use in an isostatic press. The compacted body is pressed onto the mandrel and an improved assembly is utilized to free the body from the mandrel and remove the body from the tooling so that the body can be subjected to further processing. A pressure intensifier is used to apply pressure to the mold bodies and a separate air spring is used to return the pressure intensifier piston to its original position.

  • Patent number: 3980419
Abstract: A shell is formed from shredded potatoes placed in a perforated basket form which defines the basic outer configuration of the shell. An inner forming core is moved into the basket with relative rotation established between the basket and the core. The core is provided with one or more peripheral grooves which are especially shaped to develop a forming and shaping means which initiates movement of the shreds and distributes the shredded material within the space between the core and the perforated basket means. The shredded potatoes may be placed within the basket or fed thereto through the head. The shreds are formed with at least a partial curved outer surface. A perforated closure basket is secured telescoped into the shell for cooking. The assembly is cooked with the shell opening horizontally. The shredded potatoes are processed to remove moisture prior to forming thereof and the total process may be done by an automated line.
