Shaping Member For Traversing The Interior Surface Of Hollow Work Patents (Class 425/460)
  • Publication number: 20150137421
Abstract: A core (14) which is typically held in front of the mold (13) is required for producing hollow plastic objects (10). This does not allow for a transverse reinforcement (11) which is formed from a prefabricated reinforcement tube to be pulled over the core (14). A method and device is provided for the core (14) to be held behind the mold (14) when viewed in the production direction (17). In this case, the front end (15) of the core (14), which is located in front of the mold (13), remains free, such that a transverse reinforcement (11) that has been formed from a prefabricated reinforcement tube can be pulled over the free front end (15) of the core (14).

  • Patent number: 8945455
Abstract: A support apparatus and method for providing structural support to a shape memory polymer (SMP) apparatus during fabrication of composite parts. The support apparatus may comprise an adjustable, rigid structural member and a plurality of SMP support components transitionable between a rigid and malleable state and fixed to an outer surface of the rigid structural member. The rigid structural member may extend in at least one cross-sectional dimension toward the SMP apparatus, pressing the SMP support components, in their malleable state, against the SMP apparatus. The SMP support components may thereby conform to a first surface of the SMP apparatus, then return to their rigid state while pressed against the SMP apparatus, thus providing a rigid load path between the SMP apparatus and the rigid structural member. Then composite material may be applied to a second surface of the SMP apparatus, opposite of the first surface.

Further, the present invention provides a composite drive shaft, which is manufactured using the mold and is configured such that, when a connection joint (metal yoke) is assembled with each end of the drive shaft, the drive shaft can be rotated in an integrated state realized by the connection joints. Thus, the composite drive shaft of the present invention can directly transmit power, instead of a mechanical fastening jointing technique or an adhesive bonding jointing technique, thus efficiently transmitting high torque.

  • Patent number: 4611980
Abstract: Disclosed is a fiber reinforced thermosetting resin cylindrical shaped product manufacturing apparatus and method using a cylindrical forming die body having open axial ends and rotatable about its longitudinal axis. A cantilever beam body is positionable within the die body so as to extend along the die body longitudinal axis. The cantilever beam supports a suspension stand which is either movable or fixed. The suspension stand includes a reinforcing fiber feeding apparatus, a liquid thermosetting resin feeding apparatus and freely rotatable pressing rollers. A resin hardening agent feeding apparatus can also be included. While the die body is slowly rotating about its longitudinal axis, fiber reinforcing material is fed onto the die body and resin, possibly including a hardening agent, is fed thereto. This mixture is then pressed by the freely rotating rollers as either the suspension stand or the die body itself is axially moved.

  • Patent number: 4601768
Abstract: To relieve stresses in a plastic weld which may weaken the weld and increase its susceptibility to solvent-induced crazing or cracking, forces are applied to the weld zone (the interface between welded parts) after it has cooled to solid condition, but preferably when it is at a higher temperature than the regions of the parts adjacent thereto, which forces are higher than the yield strength of the material at the weld zone and lower than the yield strength of the material in the regions of the parts adjacent to the weld zone. The forces thereby cause yielding or plastic deformation which effectively relieves certain thermally induced stresses in the weld. Tensile stresses in the weld are thereby relieved, to reduce susceptibility of the weld to solvent-induced crazing or cracking.

  • Patent number: 4590018
Abstract: Spin casting is accomplished by spinning a liquid monomer in a rotating concave mold. Centrifugal force provides the concave lens curvature. Insufficient wetting at the edge of the lens mold results in imperfect lenses. Three methods have been found to increase the wetting. (1) Time: If the rotating monomer is allowed to remain in the mold, some improvement in wetting will occur due to liquid creep. Receding contact angles are lower than advancing contact angles. Two methods have been found to provide receding contact angles. (1) A wiper forces the liquid outward to the edge of the mold. (2) High rotational speed will provide sufficient centrifugal force to move the liquid monomer outward to the edge. Reducing the rotational speed will result in a receding contact angle.
