  • Patent number: 5229142
Abstract: An apparatus for forming a hollow container from a hot closed-end parison includes injection molding a hot-closed-end parison, adjusting the temperature of the hot closed-end parison by heating or cooling the hot closed-end parison by heating in a predetermined location within a temperature adjusting pot in a temperature adjusting device. The parison is then blow-molded into a hollow container having a predetermined configuration after the parison has been adjusted in temperature. The temperature adjusting operation uses at least either of the temperature adjusting pot or a temperature adjusting core in the temperature adjusting device so as to apply a pre-treatment, such as by clamping, to a portion of the hot closed-end parison for obtaining the predetermined concavo-convex pattern in the hollow container formed at the subsequent blowing step. Thus, a hollow container, a portion of which has the desired concavo-convex pattern, can be mass-produced simply and inexpensively.

Abstract: The present invention provides a blow molding apparatus which conveys preforms to a blow molding stage while holding the preform by two rows of supporting plates, places the preforms in two rows of blowing molds disposed corresponding to the supporting plates, blow molding the preform into hollow containers when the blowing molds are in their closed positions, thereafter opening the blowing molds to remove the molded containers therefrom. In this blow molding apparatus the row pitch between the supporting plates is changed between one when the blowing molds are opened and another when the blowing molds are in the other conditions. In this apparatus, the row pitch between the supporting plates is not required to maintain the maximum pitch when the blowing molds are opened. • Patent number: 4806091
Abstract: In an apparatus for manufacturing a hollow body, the hollow body comprises an injection-molded head piece, a body part formed by blow molding a preform segment which segment is integral with the head piece. The apparatus comprises a ring-shaped nozzle wherein a ring-shaped nozzle opening is defined between a nozzle cone piece and a nozzle opening piece. The apparatus further comprises a withdrawal device operative with respect to the ring-shaped nozzle, which withdrawal device is axially, reciprocally movable and has a recess. It is desired to enable production of different and/or novel configurations of the body parts of the hollow body. This is achieved by means for an additional mold device which is provided for an additional forming operation operative on the preform segment adjoining the head piece, which operation relates to the walls of the body part. The additional mold device provides an offset in the radial sense with respect to the ring-shaped nozzle opening.

  • Patent number: 4801260
Abstract: A rotary blow molding machine includes a base, a turntable on the base rotatable about a vertical axis and a number of mold units spaced around the turntable. Each mold unit includes a pair of mold halves which close on and capture a growing vertical parison at an extrusion station and then fall away from the parison as the parison is severed. The captured parison is blow molded and cooled as the blow unit is rotated around the turntable. The finished article, commonly a bottle, is ejected from between the mold halves before the mold halves return to the extrusion station.

  • Patent number: 4711602
Abstract: Injection molding apparatus is disclosed in which weld lines are removed from a part, such as a parison, which weld lines are caused by the interruption or splitting of the flow of plastic material around core support pins or the like by the provision of an annular mixing chamber which opens into the plastic material flow passage. The plastic material is caused to move radially into the mixing chamber where it is spread by reason of the increasing volume encountered, accompanied by a reversal of flow radially inwardly into an annular injection gate. The movement of plastic material within the chamber and the resultant increase in temperature by reason of shear, eliminates the weld lines which have been formed in the material by reason of the splitting of flow around the pins.

  • Patent number: 4710118
Abstract: This relates to laminated preforms, the method of forming such preforms and products which may be beneficially formed utilizing such preforms. Most particularly, this relates to a preform which has formed as part of the injection molding thereof two layers of barrier material which are disposed within two layers of thermoplastic resin and having received therebetween a solid core of thermoplastic resin. The specific method of forming the preform permits the barrier material layers to be of a greatly reduced thickness as compared to such layer thicknesses permissible in the past, with the result that the barrier material layers in the blow molded articles are of a thickness recognized to be acceptable for the barrier function. The barrier material layers may be selectively terminated along the length of the preform so as to permit portions of the resultant blow molded article to be removed and reused. This abstract is not to be construed as limiting the claims of the application.
