  • Publication number: 20150115502
Abstract: A collapsible core of an injection mold includes relatively movable components arrayed about an imaginary centerline. When in an operational position for molding a new product, the movable components each define a separate segment of the exterior of the core, such as side by side segments of interior features such as a continuous set of threads to be formed in a product being molded. To move between operational and retracted positions, some core components are pivotally connected to a nest of the core, and others are translatably connected to the nest. When a newly molded product is ejected from the mold, ejection movement causes the pivotally connected core components to pivot to disengage the newly formed interior features, and causes the translatably connected components to translate to disengage the newly formed interior features.

Abstract: A hollow element assembly has a base and a lid. The base has a wall that at least partly defines a recess, and the lid is locatable on the base so as to further bound the recess. Location of the lid on the base is achieved by bringing an edge of the wall into abutting contact with a corresponding contacting surface on the lid. At least one of the edge of the wall and the contacting surface of the lid has a channel running there along, such that when the lid is located on the base, a welding conduit is provided that follows the edge of the wall. At least one of the base and the lid further has an inlet aperture arranged to deliver molten welding material to the welding conduit from a region external to the hollow element assembly, so as to weld the base and the lid together, to provide a hollow element.

Abstract: A rotary molding system for molding food products, mold cavities formed when a mold shell rotates mold shapes disposed along the mold shell into a fill position between a fill plate and a wear plate. Molded food products are removed from mold cavities using knock-out cups, the use of air pressure, or the use of a vacuum source disposed below the mold cavity, without the need to slow the rotation of the mold shell. Knock-out cups may be used with a heating system to reduce accumulation of unwanted materials on the knock-out cups. The rotary molding system can also be used to form products with contoured surfaces. A smart tagging system can be used to ensure that compatible sets of mold shells and knock out cups are being used. A vacuum region may be disposed upstream of the fill position to remove air within the mold cavity prior to filling.
