  • Publication number: 20030228389
Abstract: The molding device comprises a lower mold unit and an upper mold unit. When the upper mold unit approaches the lower mold unit, a molding cavity is defined between the lower and upper mold units. The lower mold unit has a storing chamber that is. communicated with the molding cavity. The lower mold unit comprises a pressure-decreasing mechanism and a pushing mechanism. A molten material is stored in the storing chamber. When the molding cavity is formed between the lower mold unit and the upper mold unit, the pressure-decreasing mechanism decreases pressure in the molding cavity. Afterwards, in sync with the operation that the upper mold unit pushing down a lower mold-holding member of the lower mold unit, an injection rod of the pushing mechanism pushes out the molten material in the storing chamber to the molding cavity. As a result, the efficiency of the molding operation is improved.

The body includes an inlet at a first end, an outlet at a second end and an inlet located along the length of the twin screw extruder to accept fiber material (fibers) from a side stuffer. A transfer valve is connected to the outlet of the twin screw extruder. The transfer valve controls the flow of melt from the twin screw extruder into an injection plunger.

Abstract: The invention provides a blowing agent delivery system for introducing a blowing agent into a polymeric foam processing system. The delivery system is designed to discontinuously introduce blowing agent from a continuous source into polymeric material within an extruder. The system, thus, may improve control over blowing agent delivery in discontinuous polymer processing systems such as injection molding or blow molding. In some embodiments, the blowing agent delivery system selectively directs blowing agent flow from the source to the extruder barrel, or through a bypassing passageway. In this manner, blowing agent may be continuously supplied by the source but discontinuously injected into the extruder barrel. During use, the delivery system may cause blowing agent to flow through the bypassing passageway, for example, when the screw stops plasticating polymeric material.

Abstract: When a process measurement metering operation is performed during a molding cycle, a plunger is forcibly caused to retract to a position behind measurement metering completed position, while at the same time a periodic forced purge operation is implemented in which the plunger is immediately restored to the vicinity of the position at which the forced retraction operation commenced. By this operation, leaked resin is removed to the rear, i.e., beyond the plunger metering stroke range, and any increase in resistance to movement of the plunger due to disposition of leaked resin is avoided. The forced purge operation is preferably performed either immediately prior to the normal metering operation, or after a specified time has elapsed following completion of a metering operation.

Abstract: The injection moulding machine has a plasticizing cylinder, arranged in whose interior there is a worm with an axial through-hole. The interior of the plasticizing cylinder is connected to a nozzle opening via a cylinder chamber. Operating in the cylinder chamber is a needle which extends through the through-hole in the worm and has a smaller diameter than the cylinder chamber. The tip of the worm constitutes, together with a correspondingly shaped sealing seat, a reverse flow barrier during the injection process. After the end of the injection process the worm is rotated and conveys plasticized plastic material in the direction towards the nozzle opening. As a result of the rising pressure in the worm threads the worm is pushed back and the plasticized material can penetrate into the annular space between the needle and the cylinder chamber. When the worm is rotated further, a pressure is also created in the annular space which slides the needle back into its starting position.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a bi-directional check ring for a two-stage injection unit. More specifically, a close fitting ring is inserted behind the plunger head of the melt accumulator so that normal running clearances between the plunger and barrel bore can be used. The outer diameter of this check ring has a very close fit with the inner diameter the injection barrel, but is not rigidly connected to the plunger. Accordingly, the plunger is free to “floats” while injection and plastication/filling take place. The open volume between the ring and plunger is small, but sufficient to permit the ring to “float” very close to the barrel inner diameter, without being influenced by the alignment of the plunger and injection drive motor.

The extruder and injection units can be separated from and joined to one another such that one or more injection units can be releasably coupled to an extruder unit, then uncoupled from the extruder unit and moved toward one or more compression-molding units. Accordingly, two or more injection units can be filled using one extruder unit. Because the injection unit can be uncoupled from the extruder, only the significantly lower mass of the injection unit has to be moved in order to deposit the melt strand inside the mold, and thus it is possible to move the injection unit more quickly using less power.
