A second portion of the first substrate layer and a second portion of the second substrate layer form an access region directly adjacent to the compartment region. The access region comprises an unsealed area, wherein a perimeter of the access region extends around the unsealed area. The first substrate layer is attached to the second substrate layer at the perimeter of the access region. The unsealed area is separated from the sealed compartment by the completely sealed perimeter of the compartment region.

Abstract: Recyclable films having a first layer containing a polyethylene, a second layer containing a high-density polyethylene and a hydrocarbon resin, and a third layer containing a polyethylene may be used for thermoforming packaging components. Both the first and third layers have an overall density between about 0.92 g/cm3 and 0.97 g/cm3. The film structure is advantageous as it can be more easily thermoformed than traditional high-density polyethylene films and can maintain the shape taken during thermoforming, exhibiting minimal warping or shrinking.

Abstract: The present development is an extrusion coated barrier film with perforated holes for breathability and a moisture vapor barrier. More specifically, the coated barrier material comprises biaxially oriented nylon film extrusion coated with a blend of an acid copolymer and at least one block copolymer material made up of rigid polyamide blocks and soft polyether blocks. The extrusion coated barrier film can be thermally laminated to expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam boards, which can be used as housewrap, roofing underlayment, or in other construction materials.

The package is sealed by a top sealing film. The body has a column at its lower end integral with the centre of the bottom. The top sealing film is such that a base liquid feed lance can passed through the film and engage with the upper end of the column to dispense base liquid into the channel of the column. The column has apertures. The bottom has a multitude of filter holes or discharge openings, and a flexible portion around the column. A bottom sealing film is provided which breaks upon relative motion of the column to the lower operative position, creating one or more outflow openings in the film for outflow of the product from the package.

The film in the area of the second seal section with linear separating cut has a pressure deformation line that extends in longitudinal direction.

Abstract: A food package for sliced food products to be maintained with a fluffed appearance, the package including a base member forming a compartment for receiving the food product and a lid sealed to the compartment. The base member has a gripping portion and the lid has a tab which overlies the gripping portion when the lid is connected to the base member. In one form, the gripping portion of the base member has a plurality of edges that define an outer profile of the gripping portion and expose a portion of a lower surface of the tab. The outer profile limits tacking of the tab to the gripping portion when the lid and base member are cut from respective webs of material. Additionally, a method is provided for assembling a food container.

The second layer, or a third layer with the second layer being between the first layer and the third layer, comprises a tear-enhancing component comprising at least one member selected from the group consisting of an inorganic filler and an incompatible polymer blend. The layer comprising the filler and/or incompatible polymer blend allows the package to be torn open without delamination occurring between the seal layer and the tie layer.

Abstract: A cartridge, particularly for espresso coffee machines, for extracting a beverage from a particulate substance contained therein by means of water under pressure is provided. The cartridge comprises a main body with a cup portion and a lid portion. The cup portion comprises a base, a sidewall and a rim opposed to the base, while the lid portion is fixedly attached to the rim of the cup portion so as to define an internal volume of the cartridge. The internal volume of the cartridge houses the particulate substance comprised within filtering means for retaining the particulate substance and for percolating fluid substances therethrough. The lid portion comprises a normally closed lid port defining a first passage for percolation fluid substances when it is opened. The cartridge further comprises a tappet arranged inside the internal volume so as to pierce the base when a pressure is applied to the base towards the internal volume, thus opening a normally closed cup port.

Abstract: A consumer-oriented method of processing and packaging single serving packages is provided that improves convenience and safety, reduces pathogens and spoilage, and promotes improved dietary intake, while extending refrigerated shelf life, wherein fruit is processed to create ready-to-eat single serving packages of preservative-free fruit pieces that may be readily consumed without utensils, and which may include a cold pasteurization processing step that significantly extends refrigerated shelf life beyond that attainable using conventional fruit processing methods.

Abstract: An improved method of preparing vegetables intended for microwave cooking allows a hot, cooked vegetable to be easily removed from an enveloping film. The vegetables are cleaned and seasonings and cooking aids such as oils are optionally applied to the vegetable. Then the prepared vegetables are enclosed by and sealed into a plastic film. The film protects the vegetable from excess desiccation and provides a “built-in” container for microwave cooking. The film includes an opening system for safely releasing the vegetable after cooking. A tear-strip includes an edge or tab for grasping so that the film can be opened by a simple pull.

In one form, the gripping portion of the base member has a plurality of edges that define an outer profile of the gripping portion and expose a portion of a lower surface of the tab. The outer profile limits tacking of the tab to the gripping portion when the lid and base member are cut from respective webs of material. Abstract: A food container particularly configured for use with food products having a refuse component, such as sunflower seeds having shells and cherries having pits. The food container comprises an inner cup having a wall that encloses a receptacle that is open at the top and a chamber that is closed at the bottom. A divider separates the chamber, which stores the food product for consumption, from the receptacle, which receives the refuse. The inner cup is rotatably received in a sleeve. The consumer rotates the sleeve to align an outer opening thereon with an inner opening on the inner cup to dispense food product from the chamber. A cover closes the outer opening and prevents rotation of the sleeve. A beverage can be served in the receptacle. An indexing mechanism and a rotation mechanism can be incorporated into the food container. The food product chamber can include a freshness seal.

Abstract: Described is a cone-shaped food item and systems and methods for packaging and dispensing the same. A preferred food item includes a cone-shaped edible food element such as a cone-shaped waffle, a cone-shaped external wrap for covering the food element, a foodstuff filling received within the edible food element, and a lid for covering an open upper end of the food element. Systems for assembling and dispensing the food item can include assembling the food element and optionally storing the food element originally in an inverted position wherein the foodstuff to be received internally of the cone-shaped food element is originally contained within the lid and thus not in substantial contact with the waffle or other conical food element. This can help to maintain the integrity of the cone-shaped food element during assembly and maintenance prior to distribution to consumers.

The gripping corner (2) has a triangular projection formed on one of the sides of the first sheet cut out into an octagonal shape and the tear-off strips (5, 6) form a pointed U shape whereof the tip is located in the triangular projection, thereby making it easy and simple to open.

The flexible package includes a pair of semi-rigid strips attached to the walls of the flexible pouch and positioned parallel to the package opening. The semi-rigid strips are configured and arranged to nest together and bias toward one another. Upon opening of the package, the semi-rigid strips are moveable between a closed position and an open position. Further, the semi-rigid strips are configured such that they automatically reclose the package when the strips are released from the open position.

Abstract: Microwavable and/or boilable packaged corn-on-the-cob includes one or more ears of fresh, shucked or partially shucked corn, each individually enveloped in an at least partially gas-impermeable and at least partially moisture impermeable transparent film that may be suited for microwave cooking and boiling and may include an easy-open strip. Each of the enveloped one or more ears is placed vertically in a shank-down orientation in a holder having at least one compartment for holding an ear of corn. The at least one ear of corn can be secured in the compartment by a suitable means. Units of packaged corn can be placed into a shipping container with the ears arranged vertically with the shank end down to minimize physical damage during shipping.

Abstract: A thin sheet of sealed coffee grounds comprises a plurality of filter packs, a rigid substrate sheet, a flexible barrier sheet sealed to the substrate sheet via a plurality of ring-shaped seals to form a plurality of chambers to contain the plurality of filter packs, a plurality of cut lines outside the plurality of seals for isolating the chambers from one another, and a plurality of grippable tabs for dispensing the filter packs from the thin sheet. The grippable tabs are adapted to allow a user to dispense a filter pack at a time from the thin sheet by simply pulling a grippable tab to open a chamber and release the filter pack therein. The substrate sheet has a smooth top surface in one aspect of the invention and a plurality of cylindrical cavities sealed by the flexible barrier sheet via the ring-shaped seals in another aspect of the invention. In a further aspect of the invention the plurality of filter packs in the thin sheet is replaced by a plurality of portions of loose coffee grounds.

Abstract: A method of packaging a food product for retail sale includes forming a bag of sheet material and inserting a food product into the bag. The bag includes a ventilated, reclosable closure arranged to secure the bag against loss of bag contents that has first and second bands of fastener elements placed to form the ventilated, reclosable closure along an opening of the bag. The closure allows an amount of air into and out of the bag with the bag in a closed position after the bag has been opened at the opening to access the food product. The first band of fastener elements is an array of male fastener elements with stems extending from a base and heads arranged to engage a field of fibers.
