Patent number: 5352470Abstract: Methods of making a frozen confection with a whistle element encased therein are disclosed. In a first embodiment a one-piece first mold with a central through-passage containing a shoulder is used to make a first frozen part with support sticks therein. A complementarily shaped second mold is used to make a second frozen part with a matching through-passage. A whistle element is inserted into the through-passage of the first part until the element abuts the shoulder and then the second part is inserted, pressure is applied, and the two parts are frozen together. A second embodiment employs a two-piece first mold and alternative ways of securing the whistle element in the finished frozen confection are disclosed. In a third embodiment for soft frozen products such as ice-cream, an ingredient is frozen in a mold and a tubular tool is used to remove some of the frozen ingredient to create a central through-passage with a shoulder into which the whistle element is inserted and retained with a frozen plug.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1992Date of Patent: October 4, 1994Inventor: Ping Yang

Patent number: 5324527Abstract: This invention relates to novelties and in particular to a novel candy holding and dispensing device which dispenses a liquid edible filling from a reservoir through a hollow stick attached to the sucker and through an channel (s) in the sucker type candy. This device includes a hollow plastic housing or reservoir which would contain a liquid edible filling. The hollow plastic housing may be pliable for applying a squeeze pressure to the liquid or of a hard plastic for which a piston force is necessary to force the liquid from the plastic housing. For a hard plastic housing or reservoir an attached threaded shaft is used. When turned, the threaded shaft pushes the liquid filling through a hollow stick at the top of the cylinder. The liquid filling then passes out of the hollow stick into a sucker type candy with channel (s) and oozes out at the top of the sucker type candy. The candy combination is now ready for consumption and eaten simultaneously.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1993Date of Patent: June 28, 1994Assignee: Baat Enterprises, IncInventor: Thomas J. Coleman

Patent number: 5279842Abstract: A process for obtaining a confection filled with gasified caramel in which the initial caramel mass is at a temperature between about 90 and 150.degree. C. and at a degree of moisture below equilibrium moisture of the resulting gasified caramel. After adding essences and/or colorants and depositing the mass in molds (14, 15), cavities of a volume of 0.2 to 20 ml are punched (17) in the two parts of the caramel mass disposed in the molds. The molds are then cooled to a temperature below 50.degree. C., with chips of gasified caramel alone or mixed with chewing gum being placed into the cavities formed in the molds. Before the two complementary molds are joined (20), an adhesive (19) is applied to the parts of the caramel mass disposed in the molds. The caramel (23) is then removed (22) from the molds. The caramel (23) which has been filled with gasified caramel either alone or mixed with chewing gum, may be provided with a stick (24).Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1991Date of Patent: January 18, 1994Inventors: Ramon Escola Gallart, Ramon Bayes Turull

Patent number: 4551329Abstract: A handle-supported oral medicament in a lollipop format to facilitate chewing or sucking thereof without the risk of inadvertent aspiration of large pieces of the medicament or of its entire body. The handle is formed by a stick of resilient material looped into a single coil whose ends are extended forwardly to define a pair of spring arms terminating in enlarged ears, the body of the medicament being molded about the ears, thereby securing the handle thereto. Because the ears occupy a large internal region therein, even if the body is chewed into pieces, these will be small and not, therefore, lodge in the throat or block the airway. And should the medicament separate from the ears of the handle in the mouth of the patient, the released arms will then spring apart to thereby block entry of the handle into the throat.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 1984Date of Patent: November 5, 1985Assignee: Joan HarrisInventors: Joan Harris, Thomas J. Patent number: 4500553Abstract: A method of producing a frozen, dual-textured confection comprising a cream and a gelatin-containing aerated phase and a natural or simulated fruit phase is disclosed. According to one embodiment, gelatin is dispersed in water and the dispersion is then combined with cream, sweetener, emulsifier and a gum stabilizer to form a uniform emulsion. The emulsion is then partially frozen and aerated. A fluid, natural or simulated fruit component is separately produced by combining pureed fruit or synthetic fruit flavor, sweetener and a gum stabilizer. The partially frozen, aerated emulsion is passed together with a fruit component through a filler head into a mold or container so that the mold or container contains a cream and gelatin-containing phase and a fruit phase. The contents of the mold or container are then thoroughly frozen. A stick may be inserted into the mold prior to the thorough freezing so that the frozen confection may be hand-held while being eaten.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1983Date of Patent: February 19, 1985Assignee: General Foods CorporationInventors: Louis G. Patent number: 4229482Abstract: A lollipop is made by providing an elongated rigid stick member having an enlarged hollow end portion. Candy material is then formed on the outside of the hollow enlarged end portion of the stick member. A liquid comestible flavoring material is then caused to flow through the open end of the stick member and into the interior of the enlarged end portion. The open end of the stick member is then sealed. In use, as the candy material is consumed, an opening in the enlarged end portion is gradually exposed, the opening either being an existing opening or one formed by biting into and thus rupturing the hollow enlarged end portion. The flavoring material is thus permitted to flow from the hollow stick member for consumption purposes.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1978Date of Patent: October 21, 1980Inventor: Alvin Kreske, Jr.

Patent number: 3962470Abstract: The specification discloses a confection holding device having a central body with an annular surface and two rigid symmetrical elongate members integrally attached to and perpendicularly extending from opposite sides of the central body. The symmetry of the holding device allows it to be mechanically inserted in a conical container without regard to its orientation. The annular surface of the central body engages the inner walls of a conical container, defining an upper chamber into which a confection may be placed. The central body and the upper elongate member support the body of a confection when the conical container is removed. The lower elongate member is held by the consumer as a handle to support the confection during consumption.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1974Date of Patent: June 8, 1976Inventor: James E. Stucker

Patent number: 3950548Abstract: An ice cream and fruit confectionery product that is mounted on a stick. A hole is bored in edible fruit to remove at least a portion of the fruit's core. The fruit is mounted on the stick with the bored hole being disposed substantially coaxial to the stick's handle, a seat being provided on top of the stick to hold the fruit in position thereon when the stick is held vertically upright by a user. The seat includes an upstanding annular wall interengaged with the fuit when the fruit is seated on the stick. Thus, the fruit is restrained from axial downward movement relative to the stick when the stick is held upright by the seat`s floor, and is restrained from transverse movement relative to the stick by the upstanding annular wall. The bored-out core of the fruit is filled with ice cream, the ice cream also being supported from underneath by the seat's floor if the hole has been bored completely through the fruit.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1975Date of Patent: April 13, 1976Inventor: Phillip E.
