  • Patent number: 8911809
Abstract: A centrifuge has an inner and an outer screw. The outer screw transfers material towards a cone-shaped section that leads to an outlet of the centrifuge. A mixture of meat components, liquid carbon dioxide, gas, and optionally water, is spun in the centrifuge. The dense components, such as lean meat, will accumulate away from the axis of rotation and be transferred by the outer screw towards the cone-shaped section. The less dense components, such as fat and adipose tissue, accumulate toward the center of rotation, and are transferred toward an outlet of the centrifuge via the inner screw. Gas accumulates in the proximity of the cone-shaped section and impedes liquid carbon dioxide from exiting with the dense components. The centrifuge is pressurized, which maintains carbon dioxide as a liquid.

The liquid feeding device is in the form of a fluid reservoir mounted on the cover of the pot, the reservoir having at least one hole through which the liquid stored in the reservoir may slowly escape into the below pot. The rate of flow of liquid from the reservoir to the cooking container may also be regulated by providing structure which permits adjustment of the rate of flow of air into the interior of the reservoir.

Abstract: The present invention concerns methods and compositions that involve whey protein isolates. Methods of the invention include purification processes for preparing whey proteins that are substantially nondenatured across a range of pH, including their isoelectric points. As such, they have low turbidity in solution across a wide range of pH values. Whey protein isolates can be integrated into compositions and solutions that have nutritional, pharmaceutical, and other applications.

Abstract: Caramel color concentrates are prepared by subjecting a solution of caramel color to ultrafiltration through a semi-permeable membrane having a Molecular Weight Cut Off (MWCA) of no greater than 3000 Daltons to retain caramel solids, but remove 4 MeI and other salts. After ultrafiltration, the retentate is subjected to an acidifying step to convert remaining impurities into salts which are then removed. A shelf stable concentrate is obtained having color bodies with a wide range of molecular weight.

Abstract: An impurity removal system for purifying wine removable from a wine source. The system includes a filtered wine container defined by a collection portion and having an opening for introducing the wine to the collection portion filtration device which is in operable communication between the wine source and the container, such that at least a portion of the wine introduced from the wine source is in fluid communication with the filtration device prior to collection in the collection portion of the filtered wine container. In operation, the wine is removed from the wine source, introduced to the system, passed through the filtration device and filtered wine flows into the collection portion of the filtered wine container. Vacuum-based and pressure-based filtration systems are also disclosed, as well as a method of removing impurities from wine.

Abstract: A method is taught for producing freely draining flocculated sediment from a suspension comprising finely divided solids in water. The method comprises dispersing, at increasing concentrations, a charged particle hybrid polymer (CPHP) flocculant into the suspension to determine a minimum concentration of CPHP flocculant above which a freely draining flocculated sediment is produced that has a minimum permeability of 1 Darcy. Then, the concentration of dispersed CPHP flocculant in the suspension is maintained at or above the minimum concentration. A method is further provided for separating fine solids and water from a suspension comprising finely divided solids in water. The method involves dispersing, at increasing concentrations, a charged particle hybrid polymer (CPHP) flocculant into the suspension to determine a minimum concentration of CPHP flocculant above which a freely draining flocculated sediment is produced that has a minimum permeability of 1 Darcy.
