Animal Food Patents (Class 426/623)
  • Patent number: 10098368
Abstract: The present description relates to a method of manufacturing a pet food including adding a first oil or fat to food granules prepared by granulating a mixture of ingredients, subsequently baking the food granules, and then adding a second oil or fat. The food granules contain a reducing sugar prior to baking. The amount added of the first oil or fat represents 0.5 to 8.0% by weight of the total weight of a combination of the mixture, the first oil or fat and the second oil or fat. The combined amount added of the first oil or fat and the second oil or fat represents 5.0 to 13.0% by weight of the total weight.

  • Patent number: 9918486
Abstract: The invention provides novel food compositions having a realistic meat-like appearance, feel, and texture. The compositions comprise from about 40 to about 90% functional proteins, from about 0.05 to about 2% of one or more cross-linking agents, and from about 60 to about 10% of a meat slurry, wherein the meat slurry comprises meat and one or more humectants plasticizers in a meat:humectant plasticizer ratio of from about 20:80 to about 80:20. The compositions are produced by heating a preconditioned mixture of the food components under pressure and then expanding the heated composition to form the food composition.

  • Patent number: 9066534
Abstract: Processes for improving the properties of byproducts of dry milling are described. In one process, fractionated plant seed tissue is soaked such that starch is loosened and washed away in the soaking liquid. A byproduct results that has decreased starch content, and when the byproduct includes germ tissue, has increased oil content. In a process, short soak times and lower temperatures are used as compared to traditional wet milling processes, and results in a byproduct that has both increased protein dispersibility index and increased oil content. Lower pH may further increase oil and protein dispersibility index levels. When a higher pH is used, protein dispersibility increases, regardless of the temperature of the soaking liquid.

  • Publication number: 20150147786
Abstract: A process for mechanical destructuring of starch-based biomass was developed that makes use of a short application of high compression, impact, and shearing forces. The biomass may be destructured using a specific energy input that is less than 40% of the total combustible energy of the biomass. The destructured starch-based biomass, with or without saccharification and/or in-feed glycosyl hydrolase enzymes, may be used in feed applications. The destructured starch-based may saccharified to produce syrups and fermentable sugars, and for production of products including ethanol using a biocatalyst.

Abstract: Improved animal feeds and/or waters are provided, which include amendments comprising a partial calcium salt of a maleic-itaconic copolymer and a partial ammonium salt of a maleic-itaconic copolymer. The copolymers are preferably water soluble and have substantially equimolar amounts of maleic and itaconic moieties. The improved feeds and/or waters reduce volatilized ammonia derived from the decomposition of animal excrement.

Abstract: A wheat cultivar, designated XY06-892, is disclosed. The invention relates to the seeds, plants, and hybrids of wheat cultivar XY06-892, and to methods for producing a wheat plant produced by crossing plants from wheat cultivar XY06-892 with themselves or with plants from another wheat variety. The invention also relates to methods for producing a wheat plant containing in its genetic material one or more transgenes and to the transgenic wheat plants and plant parts produced by those methods. The invention also relates to wheat varieties or breeding varieties and plant parts derived from wheat cultivar XY06-892, to methods for producing other wheat varieties, lines or plant parts derived from wheat cultivar XY06-892, and to the wheat plants, varieties, and their parts derived from the use of those methods. The invention further relates to hybrid wheat seeds and plants produced by crossing wheat cultivar XY06-892 with another wheat cultivar.

Abstract: The present invention discloses novel plant homologs of the Arabidopsis peptide atPEP1. atPEP peptides in Arabidopsis are involved in the amplification of defense pathways involved in innate immunity against microbial pathogens. Homologs to atPEP1 identified in soy, corn, rice, wheat, and canola sequence databases are potential sources for transgenes to enhance crop yield through resistance to biotic and/or abiotic stresses. Chimeric genes comprising sequences from mature and precursor plant defense response polypeptides from a given species, and from different species, as well as the encoded polypeptide sequences, are also described.

  • Patent number: 8677938
Abstract: A feed block is formed of compacted feed components with a coating of oils or fats that causes the compacted feed components to separate and the feed block to break apart during liquid absorption making the feed block accessible to the animals. Feed blocks have an initial weight that is substantially free of liquid. Liquid is then introduced to the feed block to cause the feed block to absorb liquid and break apart. After a treatment period during which liquid is absorbed into the feed block, a final resulting weight of the feed block is at least 100 percent greater than the initial weight. The feed block with the broken apart feed components and absorbed liquid is provided the to the animals for the simultaneous ingestion of feed and liquid. Feed blocks are formed by introducing feed components coated with the oils or fats in a high pressure press and compacting the coated feed components to form the feed block.

Abstract: A semi-solid animal feed block is provided to an animal as a feed supplement or as a complete feed. The feed block is formed of a liquid binder containing denatured wheat flour protein and sugar, and a nutrient mixture of at least one animal feed component. The denatured protein and the sugar bind the nutrient mixture to form the semi-solid animal feed block as a single mass. The nutrients may be formulated to promote digestive tract development of a recently weaned livestock animal, such as a piglet.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a foodstuff for pigs that has a high percentage of moisture and a pasty consistency. The paste foodstuff is prepared from meal made from grains cooked in alkali and ingredients that are commonplace in animal nutrition, with subsequent mixing with water in order to form a paste prior to serving in a free-access . The advantages thereof include a reduction in the amount of foodstuff consumed by the animal and a reduction in the amount of foodstuff wasted, thereby enhancing the foodstuff conversion efficiency and thus reducing overall nutrition costs in a pig-rearing facility. The invention includes the paste foodstuff and the method for the production thereof.
