Patent number: 6406726Abstract: For preparing cattle feed mixtures, especially pumpable liquid feed mixtures, the feed components are added consecutively to a weighing and mixing container and mixed. Before or while the feed mixture is being prepared, the pH of the mixture is measured and, if it exceeds a specified value during a continued mixing process, acid is added as the last additive to the feed mixture until the specified value is reached. For this purpose, a pH measuring probe, which is passed through the wall of the container, is provided in the lower region of the weighing and mixing container.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 2000Date of Patent: June 18, 2002Assignee: WEDA-Dammann and Westerkamp GmbHInventor: Franz-Josef kl. Patent number: 6406729Abstract: A method of producing a milk replacer product that includes creating a pattern of air flow in a mixing zone of a mixer, gravity feeding a powdered nutritional composition into the mixing zone, applying an agglomerating aid to the particles of the powdered nutritional composition in the mixing zone, where the agglomerating aid, in combination with the pattern of air flow, is effective to cause particles of the powdered nutritional composition to stick together and form agglomerates, and drying the agglomerates to form the milk replacer product.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2000Date of Patent: June 18, 2002Assignee: Land O′Lakes, Inc.Inventors: Bill L. Patent number: 6403143Abstract: The present invention relates to dry, flowable nutritive supplement mixtures and to processes for their manufacture. The mixtures of the invention provide liquid nutritive supplements, containing, for example, one or more amino acids, in an organic carrier. The organic carriers of the invention are preferably high-fiber and/or proteinaceous compositions, such as protein byproducts (soybean feed, for example). The process for making the mixtures of the invention involves mixing the liquid nutritive supplements and the organic carrier under controlled conditions for absorption of the supplement into the carrier, followed by multiple or continuous additions of a reactive metal oxide, to produce the dry, flowable nutritive supplement products.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2000Date of Patent: June 11, 2002Assignee: Archer-Daniels-Midland CompanyInventors: Basil D. Patent number: 6399123Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for producing a treated animal feed having a comparatively higher metabolizable energy value and fewer oligosaccharides than in untreated feed, with the present method including the steps of adding an enzyme at ambient conditions to the animal feed and allowing the enzyme to hydrolyze the oligosaccharides. The present invention also relates to the resultant animal feed.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2000Date of Patent: June 4, 2002Assignee: University of Missouri Board of CuratorsInventors: Monty S. Patent number: RE38009Abstract: Preparations are disclosed containing the 3R-3′R stereoisomer of zeaxanthin as a sole detectable isomer, packaged for oral ingestion by humans as a therapeutic drug or nutritional supplement. Zeaxanthin is a yellow carotenoid pigment found in the macula (in the center of the human retina), which helps protect retinal cells against phototoxic damage. The pure R-R stereoisomer can be prepared by fermenting cells, such as Flavobacterium multivorum (ATCC 55238), which do not create any detectable quantity of the undesired and potentially toxic S-S or S-R isomers, and which do not synthesize any other carotenoids. The R-R isomer can be concentrated, in large quantities and at low cost, into a viscous oily fluid containing about 5 to 20% zeaxanthin, by means of a simple solvent extraction process. This oily fluid can be mixed with a carrier such as vegetable oil and enclosed within a digestible capsule, comparable to a conventional capsule containing Vitamin E.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 2000Date of Patent: February 25, 2003Assignee: Zeavision LLCInventors: Kevin M.
