  • Patent number: 5620724
Abstract: The invention disclosed herein provides a way to engage a used concentrate packet such as a tea bag in a drink container in which a liquid product was made from the concentrate without removing the packet from the container and without having to directly contact the packet. Thus, one need not wet his or her fingers or anything in the area of the container, and the used packet when engaged will not interfere with drinking of the liquid product. The packet is also isolated from the interior of the drink container to inhibit further infusion or dissolving of any concentrate remaining in the packet, thereby to control the strength or concentration of the liquid product without having to remove the packet from the container. In the preferred embodiment the holder defines a compartment into which the used packet may be moved to isolate the packet from the interior of the drink container so as to inhibit further concentrating the liquid product from any concentrate in the packet.

  • Patent number: 4651870
Abstract: A controlled infusion container suitable for infusing substances into a liquid into which it is immersed includes a container for the infusible material fabricated from porous sheet material folded upon itself providing a reservoir for the infusible material. The distal edges are folded upon themselves to form a relatively small overlap portion which is then sealed to provide a centrally disposed opening. A handle is inserted into the opening extending therein and is fastened to the remaining open edge of the container retaining the infusible substance therein. By inserting the assembly into a liquid and gently providing for up and down and lateral motion a pumping action created by the handle provides efficient infusion of the infusible substances into the liquid.

  • Patent number: 4619830
Abstract: A filter unit for making coffee, tea or other beverages consists of a filter pouch and a rod for suspending the pouch in a cup or similar container. The pouch has a water permeable bag portion in which ground coffee, tea or other beverage flavoring can be placed, and a mouth portion into which liquid can be poured to filter through the flavoring and through the permeable bag portion into the cup. The mouth portion is stiffer than the bag portion, being reinforced by folding the water permeable material of the pouch onto itself, and holes are pierced through the mouth portion to receive the rod. The rod passes through the holes midway between side edges of the pouch. The holes are slightly larger than the rod and the rod is smooth, and a pouch containing coffee or the like tends to open if the rod is jiggled. The side edges of the pouch diverge upwardly and can engage opposite sides of the cup to press the mouth portion to an open position as the pouch is lowered into the cup.

  • Patent number: 4465697
Abstract: A coffee brewing device includes a housing for holding ground coffee with at least one wall of the housing being formed from a permeable filtering membrane which permits a flow-through of water. The interior of the housing is vented to the atmosphere through an attached conduit, which can be used as a handle, so as to permit the escape of gases which are generated when the coffee grounds are submerged in a cup of hot water. Baffles which serve to control the extent and direction of gas movement may be positioned in the housing. By such control, the generated gases may be utilized to agitate the coffee grounds to thus get a more complete mixing of the grounds with the water prior to a venting of the gases to the atmosphere. The baffles may be of both a perforated and non-perforated design so as to control gas bubble size and direction of flow.

  • Patent number: 4410550
Abstract: An improved beverage infusion device and a method of rapid brewing an infusible beverage substance such as fresh, fine ground, roasted coffee by air agitation in an air-water chamber. The wall of the chamber is constructed of a fine porous filtering material that confines particles of coffee during agitation thereof with water of an amount necessary for brewing either one or more serving portions of coffee. An air conduit directs air underneath the coffee particles accumulated in the air-water chamber that is immersed in hot water. The hot water enters the porous wall of the air-water chamber, saturating the coffee particles. One or more intermittent burst of air are directed by the conduit under the coffee particles thereby momentarily suspending the coffee particles in the water, and agitating the coffee particles and the water. The water solubles of the coffee are extracted rapidly and mixed with the water to create a beverage.
