Patent number: 4141127Abstract: A method of refurbishing vane or blade components. Used turbine vanes or blades are cleaned, annealed and in some cases slotted adjacent their ends, after which any cooling passages (in the case of vanes) are welded closed and all cracks welded over, on both leading and trailing edges. The trailing edge, for a vane or blade component having a short chord, is built up by welding along its full length with an alloy wire, after which any slots that were cut adjacent the ends are closed, also by welding. Then the worn surfaces of the vane or blade are built-up by a plasma spray process, using a metal powder with added silica, to a thickness which can be as great as 30 to 40 thousandths of an inch. The built-up vane or blade is then sintered and thereafter surface finished to conform to the original contour of the component when new. Any cooling holes are finally recut, and the vane or blade polished as required and inspected.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 1976Date of Patent: February 27, 1979Inventors: Salvatore J. Patent number: 4131715Abstract: This application discloses a composition and a method for catalyzing and crosslinking of a polyepoxy compound and an acrylic resin containing carboxylic acid groups, the catalyst being in the form of a metal chelate, particularly of manganese, zinc or chromium. The compositions, when substantially freed of volatile solvent and adjusted to a viscosity resembling that of gunnable caulking compositions, are particularly well adapted as a replacement for the metallic body solder used in automobile manufacture to fill out imperfections, welded joints and the like, when applied thereto and cured.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 1976Date of Patent: December 26, 1978Assignee: Rohm and Haas CompanyInventor: Lawrence S. Patent number: 4112141Abstract: A solder for filling or padding operations on automobile bodies, consisting essentially of 2.0-7.0 Wt% antimony, optionally less than 5.0 Wt% of tin and the balance of lead. This solder is inexpensive and exhibits good physical properties at high temperatures principally due to its high solidus temperature of above 240.degree. C. The use of this solder is particularly advantageous when the filling or padding operations are preparatory to a surface coating operation in which a high baking temperature is employed for hardening enamel paint or varnish.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1977Date of Patent: September 5, 1978Assignee: Nissan Motor Company, LimitedInventors: Eiichi Yoshida, Hideo Nakao, Norimasa Goto, Toul Sugiyama, Sadao Kashiwaya

Patent number: 4103042Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing an improved hot filament, arc type ion source is disclosed. The arc type ion source utilizes a filament having a carburized surface layer and/or means to provide a hydrocarbon gas containing atmosphere about said filament. The method includes providing an atmosphere containing a hydrocarbon gas about said filament so that the filament can be continuously carburized as part of the ion source.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1977Date of Patent: July 25, 1978Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Harold Franklin Winters

Patent number: 4073973Abstract: A method of filling cavities with a hot melt adhesive composition. The adhesive composition comprises a block copoly(ester-amide) containing crystalline polyester and amorphous polyamide segments and a finely divided spheroidal metal. The weight ratio of poly(ester-amide) to metal is in the range of 70:30 to 30:70. The adhesive composition is applied as a hot melt to fill a cavity in a substrate and is sanded smooth to provide a surface which accepts paint.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1976Date of Patent: February 14, 1978Assignee: Monsanto CompanyInventors: Joseph G.
