Abstract: An approach is presented for designing a polymeric layer for nanometer scale thermo-mechanical storage devices. Cross-linked polyimide oligomers are used as the recording layers in atomic force data storage device, giving significantly improved performance when compared to previously reported cross-linked and linear polymers. The cross-linking of the polyimide oligomers may be tuned to match thermal and force parameters required in read-write-erase cycles. Additionally, the cross-linked polyimide oligomers are suitable for use in nano-scale imaging.

Abstract: A metal sheet, inclusive of a metal strip, having a front side and a back side, both the front side and the back side comprising a first coating having an average thickness in the range from 0.5 to 10 ?m, wherein the first coating of the front side contains particles, which release divalent or multivalent metal ions upon the action of an acid, in such an amount that a self-depositing coating agent forms, upon contact with the front side, a second coating thereon, whereas this is not the case for the first coating of the back side. The first coating of the front side can be overcoated with a self-depositing coating agent. Cut edges that do not have a first coating can be covered with the self-depositing coating agent. Correspondingly coated metal sheets, as well as a method for the manufacture thereof, are furthermore within the scope of the invention.

Abstract: A method of printing on a metal surface includes steps of forming a plurality of macropores on at least a portion of a metal surface. A plurality of micropores are formed within and adjacent to the macropores. The metal surface is cleaned, and a first ink having a first color is applied to the macropores and micropores to form at least one image on the metal surface. Preferably, the ink is applied using an inkjet printer. The ink is dried. A second ink having a second color may also be applied to the metal surface and then dried. Additional inks may also be applied. A lacquer top coat may be applied to the metal surface on top of the first ink (and additional inks, if provided). Preferably, the metal surface is part of a coin.

Abstract: A method of producing a low-dust, fire retardant cellulose fiber material useful in producing insulation and other such products is provided. A liquid, comprising a solvent and at least one fire-retarding material soluble in that solvent, is applied to a cellulose source material, and the liquid is allowed to permeate into the cellulose source material. The liquid permeated material is dried to remove the solvent while the fire-retardant material remains in the cellulose source material. The dried fire-retardant cellulose source material is reduced in size and then de-dusted to produce a low to no dust, fire-retardant cellulose fiber material that has functionally equivalent fire-retardant properties as the dried fire-retardant cellulose source material before de-dusting.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for coating a semifinished product (12) particularly a broad strip used for making motor vehicles, with a mixture (10), can be converted from a free-flowing state into a hardened state by chemically cross-linking said components. Said method encompasses the following steps: a.) the mixture (10) is applied to the semifinished product (12); b.) the mixture (10) is flash-hardened at a first temperature for a first period of time; c.) the flash-hardening process is interrupted; and d.) the mixture (10) is hardened at a second temperature for a second period of time, the second period of time being longer than the first period of time and/or the second temperature being greater than the first temperature. The invention further relates to a semifinished product (12) as well as a mixture (10), particularly a paint, for coating semifinished products (12).

  • Patent number: 7651734
Abstract: A method of fabricating a micromechanical device. Several of the micromechanical devices are fabricated 20 on a common wafer. After the devices are fabricated, the sacrificial layers are removed 22 leaving open spaces where the sacrificial layers once were. These open spaces allow for movement of the components of the micromechanical device. The devices optionally are passivated 24, which may include the application of a lubricant. After the devices have been passivated, they are tested 26 in wafer form. After testing 26, any surface treatments that are not compatible with the remainder of the processing steps are removed 28. The substrate wafer containing the completed devices receives a conformal overcoat 30. The overcoat layer is thick enough to project the micromechanical structures, but thin and light enough to prevent deforming the underlying micromechanical structures.
