When a sliding bearing 1 is heated, the overlay layer 5 and the intermediate layer 4 chemically react with each other to produce an Sn--Ni compound. As the overlay layer 5 becomes abraded, the Sn--Ni compound 6 will be exposed on the sliding contact surface. However, the described choice prevents the Sn--Ni compound from being exposed across the entire region of the sliding contact surface, thus improving the anti-seizure resistance of the sliding bearing 1.

The method of making the composite of this invention comprises supporting a first layer of a porous, non-metallic sheet material on a heat sink. Molten lead or lead alloy is dispensed transversely across the first layer. A second layer of a porous, non-metallic sheet material is applied over the dispensed molten lead. The second layer is pressed into the molten lead, and the molten lead is pressed into the first layer with a roller, to mechanically bond the first and second layers to the lead.

    Abstract: In one embodiment, the pack is torsionally flexible. Pack of laminations comprises laminations which are connected one to another by only a single connection. The single connection is provided by a projection which projects into a depression. The projection has a height which is greater than 50% of the thickness of the lamination and the depression has a depth which is greater than 50% of the thickness of the lamination. The depression and projection are produced by a projection punch which cooperates with a die. The die has a lip which is either radiused (r) or conical (C) and the punch causes the metal of the lamination to be extruded past the lip into the die while the depression is being formed. The radiused or conical lip allows the height of the projection and the depth of the depression to be greater than the normal 50% shear stress fracture depth/height.

    Abstract: An optical recording medium, which is used as an optical disc, optical card or the like for optically recording, reproducing, erasing and the like, includes a center substrate having formed on at least one side thereof recesses and/or protrusions. Recording films are formed on both sides thereof and transparent protective plates bonded to these recording films respectively. This arrangement substantially eliminates warping of the substrates constituting the optical recording medium and exfoliation of substrates or the like even when the optical recording medium is subjected to sudden changes in temperature. This optical recording medium demonstrates enhanced optical performance and protective effect. The selecting of the transparent protective plate is simplified because the forming recesses and/or protrusions is not a factor. By producing an optical recording medium utilizing the above features, the carrier-to-noise ratio and isotropy of the medium is improved.

    Abstract: An insulating polyolefin laminate paper and a method for producing such a paper in which first and second fiber paper layers are laminated to a polyolefin film layer. The fiber paper layers have an impermeability of 20 to 4000 Gurley-seconds. At least one of the fiber paper layers is mechanically deformed in such a manner that irregularities are produced having a depth of 2 to 50% of the thickness of the fiber paper layer. The mechanical deformation is accomplished prior to lamination. Before lamination, the water content of the fiber paper layers is controlled to be no more than 4%. Preferably, the thickness of the fiber paper layers is at least 30 microns. Furthermore, an electric power supply cable includes an insulating polyolefin laminate paper as an insulating layer.
