  • Patent number: 8865294
Abstract: Laminated multi-ply films where one film layer is substantially unpigmented and the other film layer is substantially pigmented can provide a metallic appearance when the substantially unpigmented film layer is cold stretched either prior to lamination or during the lamination step. This surprising result provides an inexpensive way to produce films with a metallic appearance. Trash bags having an inner bag and an outer bag laminated together may be formed according to this process.

  • Patent number: 8852717
Abstract: In a method for containing a spilled liquid, a mat is provided onto a surface. The mat includes a liquid permeable upper layer disposed above a liquid impermeable lower layer, with a watertight adhesive securing the upper layer to the lower layer. The watertight adhesive defines one or more enclosed regions between the upper and lower layers. A vessel containing liquid can be placed on the mat, accessible by an animal or human, such that liquid spilled from the vessel falls onto the mat above the one or more enclosed regions. The spilled liquid permeates through the liquid permeable upper layer onto one or more enclosed regions, where the liquid impermeable lower layer prevents further vertical permeation of the liquid while the watertight adhesive that bounds the enclosed regions inhibits lateral permeation of the liquid. The spilled liquid is thereby contained in the enclosed regions onto which it was spilled.

  • Publication number: 20140193615
Abstract: The invention specifies an apparatus for applying a film (7) to a substrate (2) by lamination. This apparatus has a heating device (12, 19), which makes it possible for different regions of the film (7) and/or the substrate (2) to be exposed specifically to different temperatures. It is thus also possible to process substrates or films which contain temperature-sensitive elements, e.g. security elements based on bacteriorhodopsin. For this purpose, the heating device comprises a plurality of heating elements (19) which can be activated separately, and therefore different regions of a heating surface (12) can be subjected specifically to different levels of heating power. In order to compensate for irregularities on the surface of the substrate or of the film, the apparatus may have a flexible mating surface (21) which is arranged opposite the healing surface and can be subjected to pressure pneumatically by way of a pressure chamber (22).

Abstract: In an outer covering sheet of an absorbent product, first, second and third adhesive layer elements each extending in a left-right direction are formed on a second covering sheet by spiral spray application. Each of these adhesive layer elements has wide width parts and narrow width parts which are continuous with the wide width parts, respectively. Therefore, hot melt adhesive can be stably discharged across the entire length of the adhesive layer element, unlike in the case where only wide width parts are formed intermittently. As a result, it is possible to obtain the outer covering sheet which is a sheet member having the adhesive layer elements with desired shapes where unevenness is decreased. In the absorbent product which is manufactured with use of the sheet member, the comfort level of the wearer can be prevented from decreasing due to unevenness of thickness of the adhesive layer elements.

Abstract: In an illustrative implementation of this invention, a 3D object comprises substrate layers infiltrated by a hardened material. The 3D object is fabricated by a method comprising the following steps: Position powder on all or part of a substrate layer. Repeat this step for the remaining substrate layers. Transform the powder into a substance that flows and subsequently hardens into the hardened material. The hardened material solidifies in a spatial pattern that infiltrates positive regions in the substrate layers and does not infiltrate negative regions in the substrate layers.

Abstract: A component of an implantable medical device may include a first member, a second member, and a composite seam weld formed between the first member and the second member. In some examples, the composite seam weld includes a continuous wave (CW)-welded portion formed using CW welding and a pulse-welded portion formed using pulsed welding. A first end of the pulse-welded portion may partially overlap a first end of the CW-welded portion and may be offset from the first end of the CW-welded portion in a direction substantially perpendicular to a longitudinal orientation of the first end of the CW-welded portion. Techniques for forming composite seam welds are also described.

Abstract: The top sheet for an absorbent article has a plurality of fused compressed sections, wherein the fused compressed sections are located on the lowermost side in the thickness direction of the top sheet, and the back side of the top sheet has recesses or low density regions having the lowest density within the top sheet, surrounding the fused compressed sections. The top sheet for an absorbent article having a plurality of fused compressed sections can be produced by a process wherein a top sheet is situated between a member with multiple protrusions and a member with multiple recesses that engage with the multiple protrusions, and the protrusions are pressed into the recesses.

Abstract: A composite material as a sheet material is described, being relatively cheap, most useful as a raw material of a sanitary product or the like, such as underwear, dust-proof mask or dispensable paper diaper, etc., and good in processability, stretchability, gas-permeability, softness, and touch. The composite material is formed by laminating a stretchable layer and a conjugate spunbonded nonwoven fabric including conjugate fibers including a low-melting-point component and a high-melting-point component. The conjugate fibers are partially bonded to each other by thermocompression, wherein each bonded portion has fine folded structures including alternate hill and valley regions in the CD, and the distance between neighboring hills is 100-400 ?m in average. The conjugate spunbonded nonwoven fabric exhibits stretchability through the spread of the fine folded structures, and has, at 5% elongation, a CD-strength of 0.1 N/5 cm or less and an MD/CD strength ratio of 200 or more.

Abstract: A mounting structure 1 in which an electronic component 5 is surface-mounted with solder 4 to a wiring substrate 2 is disclosed. The solder is Sn—Ag—Bi—In-based solder containing 0.1% by weight or more and 5% by weight or less of Bi, and more than 3% by weight and less than 9% by weight of In, with the balance being made up of Sn, Ag and unavoidable impurities. The wiring substrate has a coefficient of linear expansion of 13 ppm/K or less in all directions. Thus, it is possible to realize a mounting structure using lead-free solder and for which the occurrence of cracks in a solder joint portion due to a 1000-cycle thermal shock test from ?40 to 150° C. has been suppressed.

Abstract: Crosslaminates of thermoplastic films have at least one of the films formed as a fluted structure, and two films are laminated to one another in such a manner that pockets are formed which contain gas. The pockets allow passage of gas between at least two adjacent flutes, whereby the product has an improved handle, and bags formed of the laminate have good stacking properties when filled with coarse particulates. The flute pitch is generally no more than 3 mm, while the pocket length is less than 50 mm. The bonding method involves spot bonding between the films, achieved by adhering the films together between crown portions of bosses on one film with molten material on the other film under a low pressure process, for instance achieved by provision of air pressure through adaptation of production apparatus, for instance die portions.
