  • Patent number: 11331832
Abstract: A method for forming a tool for creating a formed component includes providing a forming tool having a core and cavity with respective core and cavity shutoff bands. Core and cavity finished parting planes are determined, wherein the engagement of the core and cavity finished parting planes defines a forming cavity. Rough portions of the core and cavity shutoff bands are removed to define respective rough parting planes. The respective rough parting planes are offset by approximately 130 microns from the respective core and cavity finished parting planes. The core and cavity are semi-finished to relieve stress within the core and cavity. The core and cavity shutoff bands are fine cut so that outer surfaces of the core and cavity shutoff bands are equal to the respective finished parting planes. The engagement between the core and cavity outer surfaces is substantially free of gaps.

  • Patent number: 8889574
Abstract: A laminate product comprising a foam core having a pair of opposed major surfaces and a cover layer secured with respect to each major surface is described. The cover layer comprises a polymeric substrate having disposed therein a plurality of reinforcing fibrous material. It has been found that it is possible to produce a foam laminate product having improved stiffness if a lower amount of reinforcing material is used for a given amount of polymer substrate. In particular, it has been found possible to provide an improved foam laminate product having a relatively high ratio of stiffness to weight of reinforcing fibrous material. It has been further discovered that the stiffness of the resulting foam laminate product can be increased when the polymer substrate and the reinforcing fibrous material are present in a weight ratio of greater than 2.5. This is believed to be the result of improved encapsulation of the reinforcing fibrous material by the polymer substrate.

Granules compressed between stretching surfaces are melted to form viscous molten layers attaching ends of the granules to the surfaces. Abstract: The panel-like laminate comprises a flexible skin (1), a rigid substrate (2) and an intermediate layer (3). The flexible skin (1) comprises a main part (8) which forms the front side of the laminate and at least one flange (9) which extends from the main part (8) of the skin towards the substrate (2) to form at least a portion of the lateral side of the laminate. In order to avoid foam leakage when molding the intermediate layer (3) between the skin (1) and the substrate (2), the flange (9) is extended by a border part (10) which comprises a flexible lip (11). The flexible lip is pressed against the rigid substrate (2) so that the flexible lip (11) forms a seal between the skin and the substrate. To prevent deformation of the skin, the border part (10) of the skin further comprises at least one continuous or discontinuous ridge (12) which extends along the flange (9) of the skin (1) and which prevents a sliding of this border part when closing the mold.
