  • Patent number: 4522865
Abstract: A method is disclosed for hot press-forging a normally frangible optically integral crystalline mass ("optical body") in a closed die, by directly pressing a surface of the mass while it is peripherally surrounded by a crystal powder the amount of which is computed from the deformation ratio desired and the geometry of the die. The crystal powder is compacted by the non-uniformly directed forces transmitted to it by the optical body, and eventually the crystal powder is sufficiently dense so as dynamically to constrain the optical body at its peripheral surface. The dynamic constraint of the optical body while it is being forged is effected in such a way as to permit deformation of the optical body without fracturing it, and, without affecting its optical integrity.

  • Patent number: 4323619
Abstract: Covering element having selective optical properties, suited as a protective screen for refrigerating devices by radiation, consisting of at least one film or sheet of a material, transparent to infrared radiation comprised between 8 and 13.mu.m, and selected among polyethylene and ethylene copolymers, additioned with coloring materials selected among pigments and dyes so as to make this film reflecting in a prevailingly diffusive way (white) on the face to be turned to the direct solar radiation and absorbent, that is dark, for wave lengths below 3.mu.m on the opposite face, said film thus additioned showing a mean weighted reflectance in the solar spectrum greater than 0.6 on the upper face exposed to the sun and less than 0.3.mu.m on the opposite face, as well as a mean weighted transmittance in the solar spectrum not exceeding about 0.1.

  • Patent number: 4308308
Abstract: A multilayer sheeting for attachment to sheet metal to stiffen the sheet metal and diminish noise. An anti-drumming sheeting consisting of a filler embedded in a mass such as a bituminous material may be bonded to sheet metal, such as the sheet metal employed in manufacture of an automobile door, and a stiffening sheeting which may consist of a matrix such as a fiberglass mat drenched in a thermosetting resin is bonded to the anti-drumming sheeting. Such a multilayer anti-drumming and stiffening sheeting is flexible enough during application to conform to the configuration of the sheet metal, but hardens into a rigid lining component when the sheet metal is heat treated during the normal course of fabrication.
