  • Patent number: 8524345
Abstract: A temporary part is fixed to a base by using an adhesive layer to which fillers are mixed at a predetermined density. When the temporary part is heated, heat is applied to the fillers and the adhesive layer. At a temperature equal to or higher than the glass-transition temperature of the adhesive agent, the heated adhesive layer is thermally contracted so as to release remaining stress, and on the other hand, the heated fillers are thermally expanded. In this manner, the peel-off strength between the adhesive layer and the base (or the temporary part) is reduced, and the disassembly is facilitated.

Abstract: A method for generating a closed-pore metal foam and a component in which such a metal foam is used are provided. To form the metal foam having closed pores, the component is provided with a composite of metal particles that may have a layer of a blowing agent. Alternatively the metal and the blowing agent can also be arranged in layers of a sheet, or as a mixture of particles. A heat treatment is the applied whereby the blowing agent liberates a propellant gas, the blowing agent including fullerenes or nanotubes to which the blowing agent is chemically or physically bound. Due to the high temperature stability of the nanotubes or fullerenes, blowing agents may be thereby generated which liberate propellant gas at temperatures of above 1000 DEG C., such that even metals with high solidus temperatures of above 1000 DEG C. may be processed to metal foams.

Abstract: A high silica glass composition comprising about 92 to about 99.9999 wt. % SiO2 and from about 0.0001 to about 8 wt. % of at least one dopant selected from Al2O3, CeO2, TiO2, La2O3, Y2O3, Nd2O3, other rare earth oxides, and mixtures of two or more thereof. The glass composition has a working point temperature ranging from 600 to 2,000° C. These compositions exhibit stability similar to pure fused quartz, but have a moderate working temperature to enable cost effective fabrication of pharmaceutical packages. The glass is particularly useful as a packaging material for pharmaceutical applications, such as, for example pre-filled syringes, ampoules and vials.

  • Patent number: 8394473
Abstract: Metal-coated polymer articles containing structural substantially porosity-free, fine-grained and/or amorphous metallic coatings/layers optionally containing solid particulates dispersed therein on polymer substrates, are disclosed. The substantially porosity-free metallic coatings/layers/patches are applied to polymer or polymer composite substrates to provide, enhance or restore vacuum/pressure integrity and fluid sealing functions. Due to the excellent adhesion between the metallic coating and the polymer article satisfactory thermal cycling performance is achieved. The invention can also be employed as a repair/refurbishment technique. The fine-grained and/or amorphous metallic coatings are particularly suited for strong and lightweight articles, precision molds, sporting goods, aerospace and automotive parts and other components exposed to thermal cycling and stress created by erosion and impact damage.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a cement-free alkali-activated binder. More particularly, the present invention relates to a cement-free alkali-activated binder having a novel combination ratio, which can improve the compressive strength of mortar and concrete in which the cement-free alkali-activated binder is used as a binding material instead of cement, and which can solve the low field applicability of mortar and concrete in terms of quick setting characteristics, fluidity loss, economic efficiency and the like, and to mortar or concrete comprising the same. The cement-free alkali-activated binder can improve field applicability by controlling the content and combination ratio of an alkali activator included in the cement-free alkali-activated binder, and can solve the problems of the toxicity of cement, the carbon dioxide (CO2) produced during the manufacturing of cement and the exhaustion of natural resources due to the production of cement.
