Abstract: The present invention contemplates water-bearing silicate materials achieved by modifying the basic method of essentially reacting water glass with calcium chloride to bind the free water into solid form without adversely affecting the basic chemical and physical structure of the original product. The material is then dried by using a wicking agent, such as cellulose sponge, adding an anhydrous salt to the material to form a crystalline hydrate, or adding calcium oxide or calcium hydroxide to the material to form a microstructure that physically retains the water. The material is then incorporated into a fire protection contained in which the material forms the outermost wall of the container, a light-weight porous material such as urethane foam and intermediate layer, and a phase change material with a melting point of about 70 degrees F. to 125 degrees F. forms the innermost wall.

Abstract: A metallic glass laminate of the present invention is characterized in that a metallic glass layer of amorphous phase is formed on the substrate surface, and there is no continuous pore (pinhole) through the metallic glass layer. The metallic glass laminate is preferably obtained by solidification and lamination of at least part of the metallic glass powder in the molten state or in the supercooled liquid state on the substrate surface. Because of the dense metallic glass layer of homogenous amorphous phase, the functionalities of metallic glass such as corrosion resistance and wear resistance can be satisfactorily provided. A thick and a large-area metallic glass layer can be formed. The metallic glass layer can also be formed into various shapes within the supercooled liquid temperature range. In addition, a metallic glass bulk can be obtained by removing the substrate.

Abstract: For simple and rapid production of a shaped body comprising fused silica and a shaped body which leads to virtually no contamination of a melt in contact with the shaped body even at high temperatures, the invention provides a process comprising the steps: a) provision of fused silica in the form of essentially amorphous SiO2 grains of which not more than 5% have a diameter greater than 15 mm, b) addition of water to the fused silica grains to produce a slip, c) casting of the slip into a mould which comprises a hollow body having the inverse shape of the shaped body to be produced, d) drying of the slip to give an intermediate body, e) sintering of the intermediate body at a sintering temperature at which at least part of the fused silica is transformed from the amorphous modification into a crystalline modification, f) cooling of the sintered shaped body to a temperature below 300° C., so that a microstructure containing crystalline SiO2 is formed, and also a shaped body which comprises at least 99.

Abstract: A method of coating a polymeric resinous thin film on the surface of a tubular braid reinforcing material, wherein a polymeric resinous coating material is spin coated on the surface of an annular braid, the coated braid is extruded into the air, and the coating material is coagulated in a coagulating bath, wherein the ratio of the spin coating feed ratio (Q) one the braid advancing speed (v) with respect to a unit outer diameter (D0) of the braid is represented by the formula k ? ( g ? / ? m 2 ) = Q ? ( g ? / ? min ) v ? ( m ? / ? min ) ? D 0 ? ( m ) within the range of 200 to 3,000 g/m2.

  • Patent number: 7413812
Abstract: A thermoformed polypropylene article, or sheet for preparing such articles, is formed from a layer of substantially syndiotactic polypropylene and a thin outer layer of substantially isotactic polypropylene that is joined to the layer of syndiotactic polypropylene. At least one of the layers is a non-oriented layer. Two layers of isotactic polypropylene may be used with the layer of syndiotactic polypropylene, so that the syndiotactic polypropylene is sandwiched between the two layers of isotactic polypropylene. The use of the isotactic polypropylene enhances the processability of the syndiotactic polypropylene, which is oftentimes difficult to process because of its lower melting point and slow solidification rate. Because the sheet is comprised predominantly of syndiotactic polypropylene, utilizing only thin outer layers of isotactic polypropylene, it has better transparency and higher impact strength than those conventional articles formed entirely of isotactic polypropylene.
