Abstract: A heat-shrinkable polyester film is obtained which is extremely satisfactory in openability along a perforation, has exceedingly high productivity, and is less apt to split in the lengthwise direction in processing, e.g., printing. Provided is a label which is formed from the heat-shrinkable film and is satisfactorily tearable. The label is one formed from a tubular material which comprises as a base a heat-shrinkable film thermally shrinking mainly in the film width direction and which has been cut according to an object to be packaged, both edges in the film width direction having been bonded to each other. The tubular material has been thermally shrunk to constitute the label, with which at least part of the periphery of the object to be packaged is covered. The label has an angle tear strength in the direction perpendicular to the main shrinkage direction (i.e., in the film length direction) of 100-310 N/mm and a tensile break strength in the direction perpendicular to the main shrinkage direction (i.e.

  • Patent number: 6986920
Abstract: A composite web of packaging material for making gusseted packages having openable and reclosable interlocking seals, the seals having male and female portions, snap detents, and formed transversely to the direction of material flow. The packaging material is provided at package length intervals with thermoformable strips secured thereto transversely to the running length of the packaging material, and is fed to a modified standard vertical form, fill and seal packaging machine with gussets forming tooling where the packaging material is formed into a bag with the thermoformable strips inside at the upper end of the bag, product deposited into the bag, the bag sealed, the reclosable interlocking seal formed, and the bag severed from the next bag being formed. The reclosable seal provides auditory and tactile indications of seal closing. Some packages are formed with the thermoformable strips in the gusset, and some are formed with the gusset free of strip material.

  • Patent number: 6887539
Abstract: The present invention improves the concentricity after expansion process of a heat shrinkable tube which is required to have a thin wall and hardness, and further aims to obtain elongation of 100% or more in a heat aging test, copperstability test, and heat shock test. The heat shrinkable tube satisfying such aim uses a medium- or high-density polyethylene that has a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of 30 to 55, an MFR of 0.05 to 0.2, and a specific gravity of 0.94 to 0.96. A medium- or high-density polyethylene obtained by combining an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, ethylene-ethylacrylate copolymer, ethylene-methylacrylate copolymer, and ethylene-ethylmethacrylate copolymer may be used. More preferably, for an antioxidant, phenol-based and sulfur-based antioxidants are used together and zinc oxide is added.

  • Patent number: 6706024
Abstract: The present invention relates to polymeric medical articles comprising the anti-infective agents chlorhexidine and triclosan. It is based, at least in part, on the discovery that the synergistic relationship between these compounds permits the use of relatively low levels of both agents, and on the discovery that effective antimicrobial activity may be achieved when these compounds are comprised in either hydrophilic or hydrophobic polymers. It is also based on the discovery that chlorhexidine free base and triclosan, used together, are incorporated into polymeric medical articles more efficiently. Medical articles prepared according to the invention offer the advantage of preventing or inhibiting infection while avoiding undesirably high release of anti-infective agent, for example into the bloodstream of a subject.
